I have a few electrical questions I am hoping you can help me out with..
  • I am installing a satelite radio in my car, and I am looking for somewhere to hardwire it in. I am wondering what wire would be a good source to tap into?
  • Where does the factory cd changer wiring go to? For some reason it is disconnected in my car.
  • Where do you route your amplifier power cable through the firewall? Did you drill a hole or use one that is already there?

I have a 30 amp relay (overkill I know but thats all they sold) that I am considering using to power both sat. radio and cd changer, as well as a remote turn on wire for the amplifier, however I am unsure if I can find a suitable wire to tap into to supply power for all of this. I am thinking cigarette lighter, but I don't want to be blowing fuses if I want to use that plug in for something else as well. Just seems like too much for a small wire.

Thanks! :thumb:

Are talking about an aftermarket amplifier to power some speakers or a sub?

well, with the satellite radio, I hardwired the power to the fuse panel under the dash. Satellite comes on and turns off with the acc. As for mounting, see this thread:

yes an aftermarket amplifier. sorry for the confusion!

If you're looking to install an aftermarket amplifier yourself, I recommend you do A LOT more research.

Reasons why?...

-You don't put a fuse or relay on the remote turn on.
-You won't be able to power an amp sufficiently by tapping into a hot-wire in the car. You need to run a fused power cable directly from the battery positive and a ground directly to the chassis or battery negative.
-Most aftermarket amps draw more than 30amps, that fuse will pop.

Read up some more, it's what I did. Works well... my work to show:

Don't mind the ****** sanding job on the fiberglass, I had to get that done in less than 3 days.
