The Momo Part number says it's only good on Tauri up until '88, but it looks like that must be wrong....

I like the '89 Wheel but mine has a weird chunk missing from the leather....also, you never really know how good it can really be until you have a nice wheel LOL..my old GTi had a very cool Nardi and it was just a pleasure.

I don't know, man. Personally I wouldn't be able to look at the blunt end of the Taurus column through the steering wheel. It's not like the old days when a Grant just blended nicely into the old columns.

If I were ever inclined to swap out the wheel for an aftermarket, I'd have to go the distance and yank the entire column and replace it with something else.

I think you are going to have a hard time for the 89, since it doesn't use the same adapter as the late 80s-early90s Mustang, like the 91-95 Taurus.

I'd take a guess that the adapter for an early 80s Mustang might work though.

I'm running the same wheel and adapter that Calypso has in his picture, it's Momo part number 4525, it will NOT work for the 89 SHO.

I've heard 4526 is the magic number (one of the V6SHO-listers had that number on his '89....) but they're more scarce than Nessie.

I bought my 4526 from eBay, and had it in a week.

AFAIK, the 90-95 wheel will not fit on the 89 because the steering shaft is not the same. If that is true, the 4526 will not work on an 89.

Does anyone have a picture of an 89 wheel without the horn section? If I recall correctly, the 89 shaft is shaped like a D. The 90-95 shaft is shaped like a 0. The 4526 adaper has 2 flats that fit over the sides of the 0 and lock it in place.

im going to take my wheel off this weekend and see whats going on in there. then i'm thinking of just fabing my own adapter to fit a grant steering wheel to my 89. hope i'm not getting into something more than i'm expecting. guess i'll do all the R&D, take pictures and report back. if its easy i will be offering the adapter to anyone who would like one. as finding an 89 adapter is next to impossible i've gathered.:salute:

The adapters will not work for the '89's. When I first got into the SHO, there was a guy that made adapters for MOMO steering wheels by cutting off the hub of the original wheel and adapting it to the MOMO pattern. Luckily I bought the last one he ever made and put it to good use.

He could have posted a new thread and gotten yelled at to use the search button, would you prefer that?

There's good info here. No harm in bringing it back up.
