Rumor has it that a "Kurt Edelbach" of N.J. had made some adapters so we(89 no airbag sho owners) can fit aftermarket steering wheels. He doesn't seem to be listed and when you call his # it's a fax. Anyone with a scoop on this. Thanx - Gary

Why anyone would want to remove an airbag steering wheel to install an aftermarket wheel is beyond me. It could also very well be a liability issue for the manufactuer, since you are removing a safety device.

We have a SHO here with one of those adapters, the wheel is not centered when turning, you can see a little "wobble" from the kit.

You could always just ask Drivinhard. He has an aftermarket steering wheel in the SR71. I want to change mine out, but wouldn't even know where to start on how to design the hub.

Kurt E. from NJ (now in Germany) built mine. It's an OMP 13.8" dish unit from a Ferarri F360 challenge car, but uses the Momo bolt pattern. Kurt takes a stock hub and modifies it to fit the momo pattern, does a nice job with the plastic shroud, etc.

I have the plate and have considered having some made to sell on ebay, you can E-mail me and I can send you a picture of it. I don't even remember who I bought it from, I just remember I got them from a guy off of shotimes.com under the steering wheel section. He was really polite and he actually sent me two. You have to bend it(because it comes flat) and have it welded to the center piece (after it is cut out) of your stock steering wheel. I started mine but just haven't had the money to purchase my sparco steering wheel yet. I have a 94 SHO and the reason why I took the airbags out of my car is because after taking out the airbags, airbag computer, sensors, stock steering wheel, and anything else related to the bloody thing, I probably saved 25lbs, which might not seem like a lot, but take out 4 things that weigh 25lbs and you've removed 100lbs(simple math I know). I'll stop rambling, but if you would like the pictures please feel free to E-mail me, I would be happy to send them to you. I belive he told me that momo and sparco have the same bolt pattern also, and if your going to post something about my wing and my red rims, please send it to me personnaly and don't clutter up this forum with stuff people have told me time and time again, thanks

The one on the left is for 1st gens, and how they come, the one on the right is what I am going to use and is already bent and ready for welding onto the piece in the picture below

This is my stock steering wheel after the airbag and crap is removed, the part highlighted needs to be cut out and re-used.

The bottom piece is the piece from your stock steering wheel, and the upper piece is the piece in the very first picture.

HOPE THIS HELPS!!

If you have any Q's E-mail me

Anyone know if there was changes done to that FR500 wheel CincySHO was offering, just wondering if a Mustang adapter would work Sparco has one at least on one of the J-Racer site lists. Even if they don't wonder if Steeda or Saleen offer the ones for their "Race" cars. Not sure had time on my hands today staying late at work so I started wondering.
