Just a few minutes ago I had a very scary encounter. I went to the mall for a while but, when I came out to start my car, all I heard was the really bad sound. It wasn't a clicking sound, but almost sounded like something was thrashing together. It's never happened before. I tried it again and made the same sound. I gave it a minute and tried it again and it started up perfectly.

I don't know what the **** the problem is and I don't want to be stranded with a dead SHO anytime soon.

Any help would be much appreciated.

From the description you gave it does sound like a starter problem. The sound is really hard to describe, sort of like a shreaking/grating sound when you turn the key forward.

If indeed it is the starter I'd suggest getting one soon. Some can go like that for a long time, while others fail more quickly.
