I had to post this, because I just could not believe it happened. I have a decent ’92 SHO with 89K on it I have not driven for a few years due to work/etc. I have this guy after it for over a year now, so sadly I finally figure I might as well let it go as I am tired of storing it and have other big projects pressing. He is supposed to pay me tomorrow, Friday. So Wednesday night I move it to mow grass, and when I move it back it dies in the yard like if you unplugged the ignition.

It was at E so I get some gas for it and today I run the pump a few times and it will not start, also my cooling fan is running? I get on here as I have before to find some info. I never did a whole lot to the car but have to thank you for the resources. I go test all the fuses, tighten all the grounds, check the computer connectors/grounds, and check codes that show only 111. I have fuel pressure too, and fiddle with every connector I can find and also test all grounds I see. Then key on the tenth time it does not run the fan, and it starts. Bad connection I think, and put the tools away while it runs. I shut the hood and it dies -the fan comes back on! %@$^!!!

Pop hood and mess with stuff a few times and it starts again. I mess with anything that could contact the hood or struts, still dies when I shut the hood, and finally hit the plastic shroud where the emissions sticker is and it stops running. I take it off and bump/smack/mess with everything there while running and nothing happens. I tighten the bolts on the air bag sensor and the other box under there (both have a little surface rust), and fiddle with all the plugs. Now I drop the hood repeatedly and it is ok. I drive around the yard/field to make the body flex and hit bumps and no problems??? I let it run a while to get hot under the hood. It has rained near every day here for a couple weeks, and it has been outside for about a month but yesterday was nice out. It is stored inside for winters and most of the summer unless I am working on something else inside. Does not seem to be much rust/corrosion in the car otherwise, though a driving light plug is corroded. It gets run/driven a little every couple weeks. I’m guessing it has something to do with that box ahead of the coil, maybe ground related, but could not get it to cut out again messing with it. It showed no abnormal lights on the dash either. Sure seemed like a strange fault that would **** the motor, acted just like you shut down the PCU.

Maybe it does not want to leave…

CCRM relay is just under that plastic shroud. Controls alot of stuff including fuel pump and I think DIS connection for ignition. Pull it out, check the wiring into it for cuts. If ok you might need to replace that relay.

As he said, the box under the radiator shroud with the letter on it (probably an "M") is the CCRM and has a big wiring harness going into it. You could have some dirt inside yours causing it to occasionally short. You can still get them from the dealer or pick up a good used spare. Replacing it is very simple and only requires an 8mm and 11mm wrench. 2 11mm nuts hold it to the radiator support and the wiring harness has an 8mm (also 5/16") bolt through it.

CCRM, or IIRC? I figured that box was the problem. I welded a whole new saddle on the front of there so I thought grounding/rust should not be a problem. I told the new owner about it but he had put 300mi on it already. He was taking it in for some work, maybe they checked it. I loosened then tightened the nuts on it good when I was messing with it there, could have been it but I bet it is inside it. It had hit a deer but mostly in the pass headlight and no damage to radiator or bumper areas. Could not buy the right piece, so I put the whole saddle on it.

Sure going to miss it, but maybe when I can I'll find another one. That motor runs...maybe have to get my little laser turbo going again but that is no SHO!

I was just real surprised that killed the motor, usually don't get that kind of thing in cars from a connection/short/etc. very often. I'll tell him about it so he can make sure it is ok or has a spare. Thanks!

The reason it killed the whole car is because that box contains the relays that supply power to the Radiator Fan, Fuel Pump, Main Engine Computer, and others. It gets dirt in it over time which can cause it to short out.
