HI all-
I visited the states (NH) and left the poor SHO at the weekend for a week and a half. When I got back here I let it idle for about 5 minutes while I loaded suitcases, and hopped on the autobahn for home.

The cruise at 90mph, after about 5 minutes the car DIES and a half second later picks right back up and stays where I had set it.

Any ideas of what happened? Should I get ready for some major repair work?
Thanx,
Will

If the tachometer dropped immediately to zero during the dead zone even though the engine was still spinning, it was most likely the crankshaft position sensor (CPS) signalling its looming demise. The Wells SU242 is available from AutoZone for $34.99, but its installation requires the removal of the crank damper and timing belt covers.

If the CPS is your problem I recommend you do it yourself, and save a good amount of $ if you have the time. The code it would throw for a failing CPS is a #14. Shotimes.com has a great how to for this procedure. Good luck thumb .

THANX for the replies so far. thumb
I'll run the codes tomorrow. (Should have done this LONG ago..) I'll also take a look at the water pump and seals, since I have slowly leaked fluid (I refill the reservoir every 3-4 months or so but no fluid ever stays on the ground where I park.)

An article on shotimes lists the following items be done at the same time:
Accessory Belts
Timing Belt
Crank Sensor (for crank sensor replacement)
Crank Seal (for crank seal replacement)
Coolant - 1 Gallon
Liquid Wrench or WD-40
Brake parts cleaner or equivalent

Anything else??

I REALLY need to do a 60k since I'm sure it hasn't been done for a while (ever?? eek! ) on my 164k car. However, money is a big issue until the IRS finally gets my money back from 2002 taxes... I need to at least do whatever it takes to keep the SHO running.

For now I just want to tackle the CPS (and waterpump if necessary) and anything I don't have to mess with the intake removal...

Any thoughts or anything I might have missed? (Assuming, of course, that the CPS is the only issue right now..)

Thanx guys,
Will
