My cars cruise would die and the power steering felt like it wasn't working. Sever people on here suggested that the VSS was bad. Well I bought one, haven't installed it yet, but now the steering is acting up all the time. It will **** when I try to turn, and the pump I assume? sounds terrible.

So is it actually the VSS, the pump, or a belt? Any thoughts would be appreciated.:hail:

It could be the belt, if it's whining and jerking erratically (due to abrubt loss of pump power) or it could be the pump if it's mostly squeeling under load (when it's turned 75-95% of the way) Not sure what VSS symptoms are but I'd get that checked out... good steering is sort of a safety thing.

I just got done with a power steering pump. On mine the bearing in the pump was bad, I replaced it and it works great now. the pump is quite simple to rebuild. and it made all of the difference. with that in mind removing the pump itself is quite a job but it may be worth it

Try to pin down the symptoms more precisely.

What sound are you hearing? Where is it coming from? If it sounds like a turbo or is groaning and is coming from the pump, it's probably just air in the system. If it a squeal or whine from the pump, it may be a pump bearing that has failed.

The loss of cruise and the change in power assist do point to the VSS. The sensor's signal is used both for the cruise and for setting the boost level on the VAPS system.

Jerkiness while turning is a common failure of the rack itself.
