My clutch pedal started making a squeaking sound awhile ago. I took it to a shop and he replaced the clutch arm bushing, or whatever it's called. Well the pedal still makes the nosie. He said that the bushing wasnt OEM and that may be the problem. It's louder now that it's getting warmer outside. It DOES NOT affect performance but it's kind of getting annoying. You can feel it in the pedal,it feels like it's crushing sand. If I should replace it again, where can I get one(SHO NUT?) and is it difficult to change?

Thanks.

Squeaky inside the car or under the hood? If you are talking about under the hood like at the tanny there only easy to change once the tranny is out of the car. :p

The part that comes to my mind when you describe the "sandy" feeling are the bushings that the release arm goes through on the tranny case. There are two, one inside the bell housing that the bottom of the arm shaft goes through and one at the top where the arm goes from the outside of the case to the inside of the housing. Both would require the removal of the tranny in order to replace.

I have experienced a squeaking inside the cabin on the pedal itself somewhere. It comes and goes, no real method to its madness at all and I've yet to figure exactly where it's coming from. It hasn't been a bother enough for me to take the time to figure out where yet either. :)

Interesting. I didnt know how hard it was for him to install it. He showed me the arm that's under the hood. To my understanding there is a bushing in the arm, but I'm not sure.

There are two bushings on that arm one at the top and one at the bottom of the arm, you have to remove the TOB release fork to get the shaft out. Only way to do this is to remove the tranny.

It's seems that I have the same problem with my car. I took a video of my squeaky clutch from under the hood and it's pretty loud around the release arm. It's a 16meg video but I'm trying to get it hosted so you all can see how loud it is. I also have that gritty sandy feel in the pedal but it seems to come and go, but it's mostly bad like that now. In the past the pedal has been completely smooth for a day and then the pedal goes gritty again. The release arm bushings are new tephlon impregnated bushing from SHONut so I'm leaning toward the problem being in the clutch cable, or maybe the clutch pedal assembly. The file should be transferred to my host by tonight and I'll post a link soon after that to get your guys opinions.

EDIT: Ok the file is up and can be downloaded from here: Gritty/Squeaky Clutch video

It's a ~16 meg file so be prepared for a long download if you aren't broadband equiped.. :) Also I would have just hosted a sound clip, but I wanted you all to get a feel for exactly what positions of the release arm that the noise is occurring at. Thanks for taking a look!

Yeah that is pretty loud. I'm not sure if mine is that low pitched when I push it in slowly. It seems to usually be high pitched, but we def. have the same problem.

Part of it being that loud it that the camera's microphone was only a few inches from the release arm. Hopefully I can figure out what the deal with the noise and gritty feel is soon. 4 weeks of therapy on my arm and I should be good to go on working on SHO's and back to my job too! I can't wait! If you figure it out before me let me know and I will vise versa.
