When i first start my car in the mornings for the first time, it seems to idle a little funky. After about 1 min, it is perfectly fine. what it does is it kind of sputters like every 5-10 seconds. Like the sound of the exhaust will be a constant hum and then it will be broken by this little sputter. Then after a minute it goes away. lol. it is really hard to explain on the forum like this. But does anyone else have something like this?

If you have received no CHECK ENGINE lights during these "sputters," you should look into replacing your spark plugs and/or wires. I'll bet there is a good amount of oil in the spark plug wells. That would require that you also replace the plug well seals to stop the oil leakage and do the job correctly.

no it's not that kind of sputter. I just did the full 60k about 4,000 miles ago. It doesn't have anything to do with the wires or plugs. After about 1 minute of the sputter, it all goes away and idles perfectly fine.

What you described sounds like a misfire and the causes are primarily plugs and wires. Just what brand of spark plugs and wires did you install and what gap are the plugs set to? If they are the Motorcraft parts and the plugs are gapped to .042"-.046", I may scratch my head.

I have that same problem with my 90. 60k was also done last december. Could it have something to do with the o2 sensors?

Well, that's what I thought too, but I changed the O2 sensors and it fixed the problem. It took me months to troubleshoot because I was ignoring the "O2 indicating lean" code. My problem wasn't exactly the same. The car would start and sputter when cold, then eventually idle smooth, but when I hit the throttle it would flood out due to the EEC compensating rich.
