My roommate and I were driving yesterday and the thought dawned on me. How can Acuras, Audis, BMWs, have such low profiles yet such a great ride? Doesn't seem fair. My roommate proposed that it was something to do with matching your springs and shocks for your type of car. Whether it is by weight or such. Can anyone shed any light on this?

sunny San Juan Bautista,
Because they're engineered from the factory to have a good ride with low profile tires. Don't know how else to say it but the factory engineers have access to all the engineering data on the suspension components. Plus they can model all that stuff on a computer. Take said Acuras, Audis, and BMW's from the late 80's and they will have the same issues with ride harshness as we do with aggressively profiled rubber. My advice is just stay away from 18" and above wheels. If a smooth cushy ride is what you seek buy a used cadillac. Or pony up the cash for a new sports sedan if you want to have your cake and eat it too.
