I have a 97. My speedometer works up to 58 mph then drops to 0 mph until I get back to 58 mph then it pocks up and works fine. The odometer also stops with the speedometer. I can read the speed from the OBD port at full range. Please help!

Any diagnostic codes? I think speed information comes from the abs wheel sensor on those cars. Could be a faulty sensor or an instrument cluster issue. I'd have to poke around a little but those are the first glance issues that come to mind. Try a search forums button above and look through the v8 section and over at https://www.v8sho.com/SHO/carenfeeding.html

There are no codes. I think you're correct about coming from the abs. Would I get a code for a faulty speed sensor?

I don't think you will. My GF had a 1997 Ranger and the same thing would happen with no code. I just replaced the sensor and it worked.

I was thinking its either a speed sensor or the ABS. Unlike AX4S tranny's which receive the signal from the sensor on top of the transmission, the AX4N (SHO) uses the wheel ABS system to monitor the speed. it takes measurements from multiple wheels, then sends to interpreted speed to the ECU which sends the signal to the speedo. The most likely culprit to start looking is the ABS module.
