On my 91 MTX I am getting a lot of "chatter" from behind the instrument panel when i am over 3 to 4 thousand RPMS. Also, when I shift at higher RPMs, when I put the clutch in, I get vibration and chatter from that as well. Help me out, this is driving me nuts. shoot

Wow, thats very helpful of you. Thank you so much for your input Trydon. shoot tool I have a centerforce dual friction in it with under 10000 miles on it. Im thinking these two problems are unrelated, but ill see what everyone else thinks.

Actually I take it really easy on it. I dont need a new clutch, im sure of that. The clutch feel is fine, and it is shifting fine. For future refrence, itd be good if only people who either have good professional opinions or have experianced the problems themselves replied. shoot

Hey man, did this just start after it overrevved? If so it could very well be the pressure plate. It could also be that the pressure plate had the 6 bolts torqued improperly, which could give you crazy chatter.

Remember that you are asking for help. Trydon posted a serious response to your answer.

For the chatter take a look at the speedo cable. I use dry graphite **** and just shoot it in the VSS side ofthecable while holding it up. This usually takes care of tht problem.

Who ever installed your clutch should fix it for free. It sounds like the PP bolts weren't torqued down correctly. And if your clutch only has 10k on it, and he won't warranty his work, you should call Centerforce.

I called Centerforce, they only have a 90 day warrantee. Ill call the guy who did it. Anyone had the same problem? Anyone know whats wrong? A guy who knows SHOs once told me that it was the input shaft retainter bearing coller (inhale). He said these parts (shaft etc) were made of alluminum, which wears easily. This would mean id have to tear the Tranny itself apart. If Anyone who knows, works on, knows somone who works on, this problem would let me know id appreciate it. Thanks. shoot

Look under the hood and if you are facing the car the VSS will be in the tranny under the master cyllinder and about an inch closer to the passenger side. There is a cable cooming out of the VSS that will go to the firewall. That cable is held into the VSS by a hairpin clip. Just gank itand the cable should come right out.

What happened to your clutch is nobody's fault. The installer installed it correctly, it just blew apart when it overrevved. The straps are blown on at least 1 part of the pressure plate. There are 3 stacks of them. Now 1 stack could have blown, 2, maybe all 3, but you're clutch is gone, and no-one will warranty it for installer error.

You didn`t mention the problems started after you overreved it.The centerforce is not a strong clutch for the SHO to begin with. You did indeed most likely break a strap.Stop driving it immediately. The straps are know to cut into the tranny case until a hole breaks thru.

Shoot. So how do i bring it to where i need to get it done, and where do i get it done? Are you sure its not the input shaft retainer bearing collor or the tranny itself? Who should i bring it to (tranny shop etc)? Im bummed. This is gonna mean big money. If the pressure plate is gone does that mean i need a whole new clutch? Help me out. Thanks. :( :( frown

Sorry to hear this man.

I don't want to salt the wound, but when you over revved it, how far did it take to do this to the clutch?

Did you miss a gear?

Nope,it isn`t the input shaft bearing. This is just a likely cause, but either way,the tranny`s going to have to come out for a definate answer.

What happened is the Gas pedal actually stuck under the floormat as 91's do if the floormat isnt scooted forward far enough. I just kept the clutch in the whole time, to aviod putting the stress on the drivetrain. The first time this happened i started getting some clutch noise, now im getting slopping shifiting, chattering, rattling and bad clutch engagement. The reason I mention the In.Shaft.Ret.Bear.Collor in the tranny is that the centerforce that is in it now came with all this info about how their known to fail and cause some of the symptims im getting. Anyone else got info? Lemme know. Thanks for all you help guys.
