So, I'm looking at replacing the stereo system in my SHO... Don't want a thumping stereo, just something I can rock out to over the wind noise (can you say Korn, Pantera, Disturbed, Hoobastank, Godsmack, Incubus... the list goes on of the bands, types of music I listen to) ANyway, I got an idea for the stereo, I just need to know speaker sizes (my friend has a set in his garage, sell me CHEAP if they fit)... So, can anyone tell me the speaker sizes? THanks in advance...

6.5" door speakers
5x7 / 6x8 rear speakers.

...I'm sure a quick search could have yielded these numbers.

I had to modify my '89 to fit in 6 1/2" up front and 6x9" out back. Rear required about a 1/4" removal, i just rolled the lip back and did it that way. brushed it all down w/ some POR 15. Front fit, but require re-drilling screw holes. You should list the size of the speakers you're interested in getting to get a better answer. Many things can be done w/ the thin metal on the deck to accommodate several types of speakers.

Actually, the fronts are 5 1/4", but with some cutting, a 6.5" will fit.

Stock:
Front - 5.25"
Rear - 6 x 8

So you do have to cut w/ a gen 2 to fit 6.5" in the front? The '89 needed redrilling the mounting holes and folding the lip on the speaker plate back at 3 of the 4 mounting points for the speaker itself. they overlapped the rolled up lip on the mounting plate bolted to the door. :thumb:

No... with a gen2, the front 6.5" should fit without any major mods. However, the fronts on a gen1 seem to be around a 6" and may need trimming of the metal bracket to fit properly. My JL 6.5/6.75" coaxials needed substantial trimming and still don't quite fit right. In my '93, a pair of Alpine 6.5" coaxials fit without modification. So it depends on your speaker choice and generation of car.

Oh, and BTW, no pair of 5.25" speakers have ever fit without needing an inner ring to make up the gap on any SHO (or for that matter, ******) that I have owned.

I've replaced stock speakers in 3 SHO's, all Gen2's of course but they were 6.5's in each of them for the door speakers, if you'd like to drill new holes you can put 6x9's in the rear pretty easily.

89 = 3.5" - 4" top of the dash, 6.5" front doors, 5x7"/6x8" rear deck.
90+ = 6.5" front doors, 5x7"/6x8" rear deck. (some have the factory sub)

Some 6.5"-6.75" speakers do require slight trimming and/or redrilling of the door mounting suface, but not too much. I guess it depends on which speaker you decide to put in there.

I have 6x9" speakers in the rear deck of my 89 & 94. I had to cut/grind out a bigger whole in the 94, on the 89 its a bit of a different setup in the rear but I still was able to fit 6x9s in there. For better sound quality (bass) Im going to rig up a small box right underneath each 6x9.

www.crutchfield.com has info regarding speaker sizes and what fit and what doesnt.

As for speaker sizes... 6x9's in the rear, otherwise, I don't know the sizes... My friend has a speaker set he was gonna sell me cheap if they fit...

Okay, so my next question then... How hard is it to get to the speakers in the dash on my 90? I replaced the heater core, and remember ponderinring replacing the speakers while the dash was out, but I can't remember what was actually needed to replace the stocke dash speakers...

Chances are... there aren't any speakers in the dash on your '90. Just the doors and the rear deck. Don't bother trying to replace them because they aren't there.

you have to carefully pop up the speaker grille w/o cracking the dash and if you don't have the JBL system, you'll need to break out the cutout for the speaker. It's really simple.

I got the JBL system... I 'll check and see if the speakers are even there then...

I bought Infiniti Pro Components for the rear of my Gen 2 6x8s and they fit fine. When I bought 4 way Pioneers for the front, I bought 6 1/2s they did require me to custom drill holes into the stock metal speaker bracket and minor trimming on the speaker flanges. they sound great But my headunit is a cheapie pioneer so there would be a noticable increase in quality if I got a newer one.

Therefore I would reccomend a good headunit!
