Well I changed my plugs last night because my SHO (89) was running like crap, and low and behold I now have oil in the plug wells. (another thing to add to the list of things to be fixed!)

my question is what should I expect to pay to have this fixed? How much are the seals themselves? Is it simply a matter of removing the valve covers to get to them, or is it more than that?

That's pretty much it are you going to do the labor yourself. If so you can expect to pay about $75.that is if your intake manifold gaskets can be re-used.If you are going to pay somebody to do it for you I would not know because I do not let to many people other than myself touch my babies. You can get the valve cover gaskets with spark plug seals through auto-zone.The part # I believe is VS50378R this is a fel-pro set.Hope this helps. thumbs_u Good luck.

Also, sometimes the valve cover bolts are a bear to get off.If you have a shop do it and they break/strip one,the cost can go up quick.Just be aware.

Talk to Josh at SHO Nut performance. He is located in Ontario and he can get you the gaskets you need. I asked him about this as well and I believe the set of plug well gaskets and intake gasket was about $150 cdn or so. Don't quote me on that price though, that's just off the top of my head. His link can be found in the "SHO Sponsors" section of the SHO Forum. I hope this helps.

You need two intake gaskets and they are $12.49 each at http://www.fordpartsnetwork.com/sho.htm. The plug well seals and valve cover seals are sold in a set at Autozone for around $70-80. All you have to do is remove the intake manifold and then remove the valve covers. When you get them off you will see how easy it is. The plug well seals pop right out. When you put the rear valve cover back on make sure that the valve cover seal does not roll over or you will have oil leaking onto your exhaust.

Cool, thanks for all the replys. I'm a little worried now though. After changing the plugs, it was running great..no hesitation/jerking, but the next day I noticed it again (although not as bad) at lower rpm, this morning it was getting worse again.

Could they have 'suddenly' started leaking really bad that the wells are full of oil again?!?!?! (am gonna check them tonight after work), or is there something else going on?

thanks

It's possible for them to get worse and fill back up again. One thing to remember before removing the spark plugs is to take and old spray nozzle from something like a bottle of 409 and try to spray the oil out of the plug wells.
