I'm still getting to know my '89 SHO...
Had it since Dec 21st and have been doing a LOT of preventative mainenance...

When I did the plugs and wires (and inspected valve shims and top end) I went ahead and took the intake off just to get to know the car better.

Im VERY glad I did! I wound up doing a lot of other stuff with the intake off that I probably wouldnt have done.

1. Cleaned intake (VERY DIRTY) and cleaned and lubed butterfly valves
2. replaced a few coolant lines (starting to crack)
3. Replaced both heater hoses (cracking, and one of those friggin FORD hose clamps was cutting into the hose!)
4. replace the vacumme lines to the secondaries
5. cleaned throttle body, throttle position sensor
6. cleaned MAF sensor
7. checked valve lash, condition of shims
8. sealed a couple of leaky plug well seals

and probably more Im forgetting....

lots of little stuff, and lots of housecleaning!

hey shoz123, i was actually going to bypass them but i have a paranoia problem, since im living in a rather cold climate i dont want my TB to freeze up, .... but what did you use to bypass yours?
I just looped the back hose that's there. You don't even mess with the inaccessable IAC or the front TB hose. Here's a pic.

JMONEY,
Welcome to the shoforum!
I definitely would recommend pulling the intake. Especially if you're changing wires and so you can check the rear wells for oil. Let me know if you need a hand. I'm actually in Everett.

Remove the hose that the arrow is pointing to(above the t-stat) then attach the hose that is pointing up to the inlet above the t-stat.

The hose on the left and the inlet on the TB just remain as they are(unhooked).

Taking the intake manifold off is a total waste of time... All you need to do is pull the engine out--> Change the plugs--> Then drop er' back in!! Piece of cake ;-)
