Removing my fairly new PP y-pipe during my clutch service, I noticed that the insides of the pipes have a lot of black soot built up. Is this an indication of a problem(e.g. running too rich)?

Isnt that normal? I seen exaust tips with soot in them all time. Go up to one of those big chevy trucks with the BIG pointed exuast coming strait out the back, and slide your finger around the inside of the tip. Im pretty sure your hand is gonna be black.

I put it on a few months ago. I guess it just stands out more on the stainless steel. Just wanted to check while everything is still in pieces. Thanks.

There will be some blackness from carbon deposits in the exhaust system even in a perfectly running, emissions controlled, internal combustion engine.
