Strange... I have never heard of a v8 SHO engine catching the case of the bad rod bearings.

I would assume the v8 will act the same as a v6 sho engine in terms of a time line. I would not drive it any more until you have changed out the bearings. If you have no ticking/knocking yet, I would not worry about the engine being toast yet.

If the crank is scored, however, I am not sure if you can re grind the crank. With the v6 engine, re grinding the crank is fatal due to surface hardening of the unit. Is the v8 SHO engine's crankshaft built the same way or is it okay to re grind them?

Best of luck bro!

Replace the oil pressure sender and see if that resolves the light. You can also screw a mechanical gauge into that port if you want to check the actual oil pressure.

A normal V8 idles around 650 +/- 50-75 RPMs. Those two additional cylinders and better electronic engine management eliminate the need for higher idle RPMs.

Don't drive the car until you've verified that it's nothing more than a bad sender.

I've never owned a V8.. but isnt 500-600 a little low? If I get my V-6 that low, it'll probally come on too.

i like my idle low i guess it could, idle has also been this low since the motor was installed by me...

guess its could just be now that its broke in..

if i just bearly hit the throttle to get like another 100rpms its off..

Remenber ITS a NOS short block with 9,000miles oil never seen over 2000miles each time changed, and oil hasnt had any signs of metal yet the new oil has maybe 600miles on it.

sad thing is i cant park it, its my only ride.........

It's stupid to assume a 9K mile new shortblock can't have problems. Especially since you still installed used heads and a used oil pump, right? And you rebuilt it yourself, right? Just because the block was new doesn't magically make everything else new.

What are you going to do for your "only ride" if you blow up your motor? Do they not have taxis or buses where you live to get around? It amazes me when people say they have no alternative transportation. I've yet to visit a city or town with a population of more than 5000 people that didn't at least have one if not more taxi companies. A $10 cab ride for a day or two can be a lot cheaper than the alternative!

My notebook with the shop manuals on it is down, but IIRC you should see about 10-12psi at hot idle.

My OPL has been going on and off for a long time and I've not been able to figure out why. When if first came on i pulled the sender and put a mechanical gauge on to check the pressures which turned out to be fine. So i replaced the sender and that didn't fix the problem either. I figure there's a wire with a short in it somewhere. could be your problem too

The more cylinders you have to help take evenly space the pulses around the crank can allow you to let the motor idle much slower.

* Columbia City, Indiana 46725... population over 8,000 not one cab company. Closest is in Fort Wayne 35 miles away. When my SHO broke down, yea, I didn't really have a ride. :) But thats why I got my F-150.. that thing has yet to let me down... 233,000 miles... origional RB's.. lol yay Oil pressure gauge is in the middle too.. so I leave it alone for now..

Anyway... here's a tip for some of you guys reading this thread... and if you read all that crap I just posted.....

I like using speakers, instead of test lights to test for intermittent shorts... You can hear the pitch change when it starts getting a little weak... sometimes a weak signal is the same as no signal as far as the computer is concerned. I hook it up, then twist, wiggle, and bend the wire around and I don't even have to watch the light.... cause I can hear it... ;)

you do have good valid points!
but i guess i just dont care anymore about this car. when it breaks its parts!

the oil pump is fairly new it was replaced when installing the other motor #2, so it has about 15k or so on it. i didnt think about the heads having an issue. i hope its just a short.

right now i think im gonna turn the idle up 2 700rpms where the light is out. i only see it flick a few times at idle in drive at a stop light.. not like its on all the time.

thanks any other inputs?

What oil and filter are you using? 20-45 @ 1500 rpm with hot oil is the factory spec. The oil light probably comes on around 6-8 psi.
