So I was driving tonight and this 03 GT Mustang with Saleen rims and a loud exhaust pulled next to me, I eagerly dropped into second and mashed it and I was ahead and pulling all the way until 80 and I shut down because I saw smoke coming out from my hood. I immediately drove my car home, but making my way home I was finding it harder and harder to shift into first and eventually after 3 light I could no longer shift into 1st gear and not much later I was not able to shift into 2nd soo I had to make it home driving in 3rd gear. Upon arriving at home I was overwhelmed with the smoke from under the hood, I tried once again to shift into 1st and could not until I started in 5th and worked my way down and it went into 1st. So do I need a new tranny or can this be fixed or repaired??? I am really in a bind becuase this is my daily driver and I don't know what to do. Thanks for any help I would appreciate any help!!!

See if you can have your fluid checked, if by chance it overheated and burned off too much fluid it wouldn't shift.

the fill plug... it sounds to me like you have a clutch issue though. Did the pedal effort or feel change in any way? Is the transmission making any new or unusual noises?

If you were burning tranny fluid, you probibly threw a diff pin. That means a new tranny and clutch. :oogle: You are gonna have to jack up the car and look all over the tranny.

Yes before all of this happened I was smelling something weird like burning plastic or rubber? And when I would release the clutch in 1st gear the pedal feel of the clutch was a bit different kind of like it was skipping or not grabbing just a little bit from 1000 rpm to 1700 rpm.

So do you guys think it's just a clutch issue? Should I drive the car to my mechanic or should I get it towed there, is it safe to drive with a bad clutch? And is smoke common when a clutch failure is occuring?
