Smoking engine?

I'm almost ready for my 100K service on my '93 ATX as soon as rest of my parts come in. Here's the list of things being replaced:

- Timing belt
- Accessory belt
- Water pump
- Timing chain tensioner (left & right)
- CPS
- Front main oil seal
- Fuel filter
- Spark plugs

Now my question is, there's smoke coming out from the hood when the engine is hot, probably from burning oil that is leaking somewhere. I had a mechanic check this but couldn't really tell where it was leaking from. Also, I see droppings of oil in the driveway. How can I check where the problem is? I would love to get this fixed while I'm getting above things done.

yo boss. it's almost definately the front main seal. i had the same problem as you. after about 15 mins of running the car i woudl see smoke from the engine. it would smell like crap too. if you turn the tire to the right, get out of the car and look underneath behind the crank, you will see the oil. it's an 8 dollar part but it can be a little hard to get to it. u have to rent a puller from pep boys to do it. i hated pulling up to a red light and seeing smoke poor out the engine. lol it looked like it was blowing up. good luck with it man.

Thanks Greg. I hope it is the front main seal since I'm changing this anyway. Parts alone is racking up $$$$ already and I keep finding things I want to work on.

You might also replace the three camshaft seals while the timing belt is out. I just replaced these on my '90; after 182K, they were all leaking down the front of the motor.
