I'm looking at doing methanol injection and a tune along with any other required supporting mods to make those two main things work. What are the chances I'd be able to pass a smog check without having to convert everything back once a year? Where I live it is 100% an OBD inspection. I don't have to worry about an inspector seeing something and questioning it. If we're being honest I'd be surprised if most of the smog techs about here would even know what they were looking at if they did pop the hood. I'm not looking at making record breaking power or anything like that. Just give the car a little bump to close the gap on my buddies ATS-V.

You can run a tune and methanol with smog. Make sure your tuner knows your goals and it should be all good. You run into issues when you start doing things like removing catalytic convertors or if they do computer scans to check for tunes. A simple tailpipe check is the easiest. Find out what your smog test is and talk to your tuner. Methanol injection can even be run using your windshield washer reservoir and hiding wiring/plumbing so without some hard searching it isn't even noticeable.

Even on cars where it's required you cant find someone to do a tail pipe test. I have a 1990 Bronco and it's like pulling teeth to find someone to smog it. If they can't just plug the scanner into the OBD port and be done in 60 seconds then wouldn't you know it, their machine is down so they can't do your smog.

You’ll be fine, all they care about is all monitors set to complete and no CEL’s. I passed tuned with catted PPE downpipes.

Make sure your tuner knows you need to pass the smog test. Some tuners disable certain things to reduce check engine light issues, and often the emission readiness will not pass. I know that was an issue with some of the big tuners for a while.

Often it's not that anything is disabled, but more so that the tuning software has options to "mask" or "scramble" the PCM code so that other tuning softwares can't copy the tune to manipulate. Unfortunately, this also means that other OBD scanners can't access the data, including the Emissions Testing software. Most tuners will provide you with an unlocked base file that won't release any proprietary information while allowing you to pass emissions then you reload your performance tune and all is good.

I smog my trash with the E30 tune in it and it passes with flying colors. 100% OBD scan as well. However, I do have catted PPE downpipes.
