I think should get the vote for the 2010 SHO Owner with the Worst Luck award.

Well, now we get to find out what a replacement windshield costs.

So, uh... just about anything can crack or smash a windshield. But it takes something relatively small with a substantial amount of energy in it to actually punch through a windshield like that.

Cold?
Warm?
Hot?

Hope no one was hurt...

*edit*
And there's a CVPI in the photo as well? Wow. CT sure has changed...

It appeared to be a small hunk of steel barb. Probably 5" long and maybe an inch and a half in diameter. I saw it airborne in front of me on the highway.. then SMASH! I don't know if it came off a truck, or came from the air. I was next to a small airport on the highway. If it did go through, it would have nailed me in the chest. Thankfully it did not come through, but bounced off. My interior is covered in glass. The rain and headlight sensor box next to the rearview mirror is also smashed to pieces.

personally i'd rather have chunks of steel damaging my roof than blasting through my windshield in my face.

So far it's between you and the guy that blew his engine in FL for the Worst Luck Award. Glad you're OK though. Did you keep the hunk of steel?

Ouch, that sucks. Glad you're Ok though. Hopefully you didn't get any glass in you eyes or something too.

That's not a PI because it has chrome trim, not black trim.

Thanks a bunch. As bad as that is and will be to deal with now, it could have been MUCH worse! That hunk of steel was headed right for my chest. Thank GOD it did not come through. Oh... and that absolutely is a CVPI, with the administrative package.

Wow, glad you are alright, that looked like it could have been a lot worse either to you or the car.

Tell the ins. co. that you want a brand new Ford windshield. Not an aftermarket one.
At this stage in the game, I'm guessing that there probably aren't any aftermarket windshields for the new Taurus, but that's a very good point.

Same thing happened to me in my '07 Tahoe back in March, only it was a foot-long piece of rebar. I just saw a dark stick fly over the car in front of me, then WHAM! huge spiderweb in the windshield. Must've "jumped" out of a truck two cars in front of me.

I was driving and my wife was in the passenger seat not really paying attention, and I think she screamed louder than the sound of the actual impact. I was too busy mumbling to myself "There ain't no way that's gonna hit us..."

Luckily it hit about an inch above the base of the windshield and then bounced over the car. It punctured the windshield enough to spray a little glass over the dash, but not enough for the rod to actually enter the car. If it had, it probably would've just dented/cracked the plastic dashboard.

I was ****** because we were headed out on a 2 hour ski trip and we had to turn around (~20 minutes in to the ride) and go back and get the Mini... Not nearly as sure-footed on the icy mountain twisties...

Luckily all of the damage was glass, but Colorado isn't a free-glass insurance state like Florida, so $280 and a week later, we were all fixed.

Regards,
Jon Heese
