Hey guys I was just digging around my engine bay yesterday trying to find a small coolant leak that I have had for awhile. I found this hose was wet and spongy (the top one) and connector (probably wet from the hose).DSC 0035 zps3cc68513

So I traced the top hose up the motor and determined it was this hose.

SO, what is this hose? I'm sure that its not the only thing that was leaking, because i found coolant on the bottom of the horns and abs pump AND i have yet to rent a pressure tester from Autozone, but I was going to replace it anyway. And was just curious what it is for. I can't even identify in my service manual! Haha

Thats not a coolant hose. Thats the hose that runs to your purge canister. It doesnt leak coolant because it doesnt have coolant in it. Keep looking for the leak.

Move the car to a different spot and put a large piece of cardboard under it then watch to see where the leak is coming from by where it is dripping on the cardboard.

Hmmmmm. Thats Odd. I must have followed the wrong hose (I would not be surprised, haha). The car doesn't leak while just sitting there, i've only every seen it leak under there while idling for awhile. I still haven't rented one of those testers, because i've been to lazy to go down to autozone. Haha. Thanks for the clarification.

If its in that area, my moneys on the side tank of your radiator leaking. Probably a good place to start escpecially if its a slow leak. I just replaced my radiator for the same type of issue.

It's either the driver's side end tank of the radiator, or the upper hose.

On another note, do any of you guys know what that little T connection is on the 1st pic? Its right behind the radiator, on the left side of the car (if your sitting in the drivers seat), and the hose was very soggy and left black on my glove when I touched it.

that T connector connects the gas vapor canister to the fuel tank and to the intake manifold. when the purge solenoid is open, it vents the vapor canister into the intake to keep it from getting saturated.

those vacuum lines all are soft and mushy after 20 years of constant exposure to gasoline and/or gasoline vapor. they are often sources of vacuum leaks and sources of fuel smells under the hood.

I can't believe it isn't a coolant hose......I didn't really personally see the coolant dripping from that hose so I just assumed....haha. I will be getting some new hose (Bulk vacuum hose?) and replacing it. I will also be changing the name of this thread to reflect something that ISN'T a coolant line, encase someone searches something similar. Thank you SO much for the clarification. I'm learning slowly but surely!! haha

sometimes you can have success re-crimping the tabs that hold the tanks onto the ends of the radiator - you might try that before you change it.

although a radiator is not particularly expensive.

Yeah I'm probably gonna get just a regular radiator from Autozone. The spectra one at autozone has a life time warranty. I'm not going to worry about a full aluminum or dual core one because the car is never tracked and even the current, leaking, radiator seems to cool it adequately. Haha
