I am not sure if anyone or if everyone here as this same problem but all of my windows roll down really slow. Sometimes after a day of using them a couple times they will almost stop and then I have to push them down with my hand. It gets really annoying and a guy I work with calls them "Ghetto Windows". I think it is because my car is 12 years old and the window motors are probably worn out but does anyone know for sure why my windows are so slow. And if you do know do you know can you tell me what I can do to fix it and about how much it will cost me because it is really annoying.

They aren't the fastest windows in the world to begin with. Throw in the age factor, and you can see the problem. It's a fairly common complaint among Gen I and II Taurus owners.

It's not too hard to remove the window lift motors and take them apart, clean all the old grease and crud out and re-**** the gears with some fresh silicone grease (dielectric grease works good here). In addtition, you want to **** the window tracks while you have the door panels off (I used a spray-on lithium\teflon based grease for the tracks). This should help speed up the windows.

Here's what both of my rear motors looked like back when they weren't working at all (I was able to clean up and re-use one of them, the other was too far gone):

Oh, that's ugly! Are the panels easy to remove and replace? Do you need to get some new clips?

Door Panel Removal - Push Pins

The door panels are held onto the doors with plastic "push pins". The heads of the pins fit into slots on the inside of the panels, and the other ends get pushed into holes in the doors. I use a flat pinch bar wrapped in tape to help pry the pins out as I am pulling the panel off the door. Not that hard, just go slow, especially the first time through. The panels pull straight off (not up), and they get pressed back into place the same way.

I replaced a few of the push pins the first time I had the panels off because they looked worn. You can get them at AutoZone off the fasteners rack.

Re-grease the window sliders inside the door and test before removing the motor. There are nylon slides that travels in the metal channels to lever the window up and down. The grease gets pushed out and also dries up.

I didn't even get far enough to get the motors out. i took the door panels off and I greased the window tracks with a lithium based spray grease. But I have no ideas how to get the window motor out let alone put it back in so I think I am just going to leave it alone unless someone can give me a good idea on how to get the motor out and back in.

The motor (top part of photo above) is just bolted onto the door bracket (bottom part). You can see how the bolt holes line up from the pics.
