Like the title says, I've got a shift **** and shaft that rotates slightly in both directions. The whole shaft moves, not just the ****. Anyone have any knowledge on how to easily fix it? Any thoughts?

I'd just find another from the Junkyard from a console car or from eBay. Look for midnightauto to see if he has anything.

slide the plastic cover down the shaft below the handle. That will expose the 2 screws you need to tighten

Ray, I see no way to slide the plastic down the shaft. Could you be more specific, please?

you need to use a little force. The tube clips to the bottom of the shifter handle. If that does not tighten up the problem get a new shifter and tell your girfriend/wife to stay on her side of the car.

OK, I will try that fix, but no way I am telling Jeannie to break a habit of 35+ years...
