Now that I'm driving my 2011 SHO in the winter months, I noticed that heat will blow out on the drivers side, and A/C on the passenger side.

I switched it from auto-climate and nothing changed. Now I can tolerate the cold (n-w Pa gets loads of it), but as far as my passengers...I'm not so sure. I closed the passenger vents and deal with it, no biggy to me.

After a little bit of reading, I noticed it might be the climate control module...which angers me a little more. For I never had to have the heat on inside the car until yesterday and I purchased the car in April. If this turns into a $500 "and leave your car", I'm half tempted to throat punch the service tech who says that.

Any other suggestions?

Almost certain it's the "blend door" that is situated behind the glove box. Not an expensive part and apparently can be done by yourself. Unfortunately a well known problem.

I wouldn't think it'd be the blend door if it's A/C on one side and heat on the other. Why would the A/C actually be turned on if the controls say off? A blend door is only mechanical, wouldn't turn on the A/C. Hate to say this gimpy, but the climate control module seems more likely to me...

((ducks punch aimed at throat)) :hail: <---something like that... ish...

...anyhow, having said that, I'm relatively new to the inner workings of cars - just started out this year actually, learning everything I can, so don't take my word for it. Just seems logical to me.

BTW gimpy - where in NW PA are you from? Anywhere near the Beaver Falls area? I'm trying to put together a track day this spring for our area. Check it out on this forum.

Though I don't think this is the case here, there is an evap sensor TSB:

FORD: 2008-2009 Taurus X, Taurus
2009 Flex
LINCOLN: 2009 MKS
MERCURY: 2008-2009 Sable

ISSUE:
Some 2008-2009 Taurus, Taurus X, Sable and 2009 MKS and Flex vehicles built on or before 4/20/2009 may exhibit inconsistent register discharge air temperatures.

ACTION:
Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

Verify the vehicle is equipped with a white evaporator temperature sensor located on the lower housing portion of the heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) case just to the right side of the accelerator pedal. It may be necessary to disconnect the grey wire harness connector to determine the color of the sensor.
If the evaporator temperature sensor is black, do not perform this procedure. Follow Workshop Manual diagnosis.
If the evaporator temperature sensor is white - replace the white evaporator temperature sensor with a new black evaporator temperature sensor.

PART NUMBER PART NAME
AG1Z-19C734-C Evaporator Temperature Sensor

WARRANTY STATUS:
Eligible Under Provisions Of New Vehicle Limited Warranty Coverage
IMPORTANT: Warranty coverage limits/policies are not altered by a TSB. Warranty coverage limits are determined by the identified causal part.

OPERATION DESCRIPTION TIME
092103A 2008-2009 Taurus, Taurus X, Sable, 2009 Flex, MKS: Replace The Evaporator Temperature Sensor (Do Not Use With Any Other Labor Operations) 0.2 Hr.

DEALER CODING
BASIC PART NO. CONDITION CODE

If you have this issue with the A/C (cold driver side, warm passenger side), could be a bad compressor:

When the blend door jammed on my car it was cold air on the passenger side and heated air on the driver's side. I cannot confirm if the compressor was on or off. Seems like an easy thing to check and if it's not the blend door then move on to other possible solutions.

Its probably just your blend door actuator on the passenger side. Just did one at work yesterday on a 2010 SHO. Common problem, part is not expensive but its kind of a pain to get to. If you drop the glove box down you'll see one directly behind the glove box, that's not the one you're looking for that one is your recirculating actuator. If you look to the side, there is a big wiring harness and the actuator is behind that harness

I've done the passenger blend door servo on my 2011 SHO and my wife's 2010 MKT both. It's MUCH easier to do on the SHO than the MKT. The part was actually less expensive from the dealer than to get a Dorman brand from the local part store (but only by a couple of dollars). In both cases the motor leads overheated and burned, causing the servo to stop working.

I've also had to replace the temp sensor mentioned in the TSB above in my wife's MKT. That sensor is also right around $20 and is simple to replace.

With a professional grade scan tool, diagnosing both of these issues is much easier since you can see what the temp sensor and position sensor for the blend doors are reading, as well as watch for changes as you change the temperature.

Had the opposite issue with pass side not getting cold last April when changing from cabin heating to cabin cooling season. It was only the blend door.

^this. Id check this first and foremost. hit climate on your touchscreen and make sure that dual climate isnt checked.

And not to hijack, but when i turn the heat off, there is a relatively loud click, coming from behind the glove box. Assume its the door blend. Both vents/heat appears to be working. This standard?

Similar to click when you turn on heated seats, but louder.

Even with the passenger side set to 80 (or whatever the highest it allows) it blows bitter cold air... almost positive its a/c.

I don't drive it that often (a few days & maybe 40-50 miles a week) and simply closed the passenger side vents and went about my way.

Come to think of it, I haven't driven it since I posted this.

And yes, I know where Beaver Falls is located. Had a friend from out of town stay here last year and I drove her down to visit family.

They have a pretty kickass hot-dog joint and most of the people are pretty laid back.
