I just finished replacing my spark plugs and coils on my 2010 sho. It has 189,000 mi on it and I replaced one coil back and 120,000 miles when it showed up with a miss on number 5 cylinder. I did spark plugs the same time.
I just want to report that the new coils and spark plugs solve the miss at fow speed undet load.

Now time to put another $189,000 miles on her.

I use standard motor products from Rock Auto. I hate to say that it didn't solve the problem after all. It's getting worse and has a rhythm to it, four bumps pause, four bumps a pause. But it only happens under load at slow speeds. Took it to a transmission shop and they put it on the computer and said it had a flag number four cylinder missing. Stay tuned

could be an injector issue. if so replace all at the same time. ford has a power balance test that can figure this out. shops with advanced tools can too.

I learn much from @SHOdded sounds like a diagnostic fee.

On a side note.......

I must admit that every time I see the name/title of this thread ("Slight mess under load") that I morph into the junior high version of myself and let out a hearty laugh.

Not quite a cylinder balance test but if you have ForScan on a PC, check out Mode 6 in the test menu. It will give a lot of information similar to a balance test.

I'm glad you are amused. I talk into my phone to do my messages so these things happen. Where's that edit button!

Well I figured out the bumping at low speeds on a hill. It's the transmission in third gear. The transmission shop says it would be $4,500 to $5,000 to get it rebuilt. The car needs new tires too for $800 so with 190,000 miles on it I'm going to buy another car and sell this one. All things must end, my first 1989 sho had over 220,000 miles on it when it lost a rod bearing, my Contour SVT had over 220,000 miles on it when the wiring insulation just was falling apart too much. So I'm looking at another sho but I'm also looking at a Jaguar I have always wanted an XJ R. I'm looking at 2014 with low miles for around $20, 000. Wish me luck!

Well it's not a sho but it's pretty darn close. A 2016 Lincoln MKS with the twin turbo ecoboost engine, same as the sho. Only 31,000 miles!
