slight issue

a guy i know has a 94 atx and the problem is his engine sounds like it is having probnlems running. it chuggs bad even worese when a load is put on the enginesuch as the a/c compressor cycling on.if you pur your ear to the tail pipes it sounds like a tractor. any thoughts as to what it coul be ? thanks.

Need more information.

Could be an ignition problem like oil in the plug wells, a bad coil or wire, or a grounding problem. Could also be a fuel supply problem like low fuel pressure, contaminated fuel, clogged injectors, etc. Could also be a timing problem if the timing belt has slipped a cog.

Have him do a little more basic diagnosis including checking the computer for diagnostic trouble codes (link to sites in my signature with easy DIY instructions with a paper clip or short piece of wire), and let us know what he finds.

Im with Mr. A on the fuel issue...but a better looksee into the codes will tell you more....take a tire pressure gauge to the fuel rail the next time it runs like crap. I'm willing to guess it is a 10 or 15 psi when it does this (it should be 30 at idle) which would point to the fuel pump going bad.
