I read on shotimes I believe that slicks are really bad for the sho. Is this because of the tranny not being to handle that sort of traction. Is this because the differential pin can not handle that sort of traction? If so would a quaife dif. help with that problem? just wondering. thanks guys

It's because you would be snapping axles and the Quaife would'nt help on that unless you got some HD axles and slicks to go with it. wink

Stronger chrome moly axles are available through SHOnut.

Drag racing is ******* any car, let alone running slicks. It's bad for the tranny, axles, motor mounts, clutch, etc. Slicks just compound the problem. But, if you wanna play, you have to pay!

On most cars you will have to worrie about the studs breaking. The SHO being a 5 lug will take a lot of abuse though. Then the axles are the next weakest part. Also to get the slicks to stick you will need to do a pre burnout which is more **** on the front end. If anything I'd say go with a set of nitto's for the track. Don't use them for daily driving though because I've heard way too many bad reports.

Personally, I think since running the slicks I've been easier on the car. With low pressure in the tires, it's very "un-dramatic" when you leave the line. With the wheel hop prone radials (I've run nitto's and BFG DR's), you feel like you are beating on the car more with the radials. You can be as easy or as ******* the car as you want with the slicks, but with FWD and bad rear weight transfer, they'll still spin when you shock them off the line. The advantage of them is once they hook up, they don't let go again. So just pin it WOT in 1st gear, and they stay with you all the way. No wheelspin, even when the "juice" hits.

But with just a few lbs of air in the fronts, and the floppy sidewalls, the car is sorta "dancy" on the big end @ 110 mph. You gotta stay up on the wheel to keep it pointed straight.

I bought a set of Hoosiers for my car for this spring at the track. I am most definitely bringing two axles with me. I wouldn't doubt if I snap an axle or two. I'm ******* my car as it is, and with slicks, uh-oh.
