We've all seen the reverse indiglo white-face gauges from Procarparts.com (or if not: http://www.procarparts.com/store-detail.asp?sku=FD96TR-1306RGX). These gauges are available at the website above, or on ebay. I know that the prices with shipping are either $41 or $47 depending on if you buy from ebay or the site.

The problem (in my opinion) with these gauges is that they only cover up the stock gauges, so the dummy lights (warning lights, turn signals, etc.) have to be visible during the day in order for the lights to pass through. Plus you have to do some wiring during the installation, and the gauges just look too 'cluttered' to me.

That is why I took an alternative route. I contacted Scott at http://www.geocities.com/slhrbacek/SHOGauges.html. His e-mail address is [email protected].

He has two different styles of white-face gauges for the Gen 3: White Factory Style and White Large Text Style. You can see the difference by clicking on each of them on his site. I opted for the White Factory Style, simply because I like the 'factory' look of them and the simplicity of them.

You can have him do the SHO watermark (which I did) for free or even daytime/nighttime flames (which I didn't do) for extra cost. You can get the numbers/tick marks to glow in either green or blue. I chose blue.

The cool thing about these gauges is that they are actual replacements for the factory black ones, so you peel off the factory ones and stick on these new ones. This means that you don't have to see any of the 'dummy' lights during the day; they just shine through when you turn them on. And because they're direct replacements, you don't have to worry about any wiring; just stick on and go! Follow his instructions on the site (he also mails you a copy with your order) because they're very helpful.

After thoughts: The install was pretty darn straight-forward and was pretty simple. When you are ready to reinstall the gauge cluster, you need to let the car idle with the gauges connected and in place, and after about a minute or so, you then put the needles back on. This is important, because otherwise you'll never get the gauges in the right places. *Remember to put a little piece of masking tape on the bezel next to the needle and put a mark on it where the needle lies during idle and when the engine is shut off!

The gauges look SWEET! They're awesome during the day, and they're pretty good at night. The blue isn't as blueish as I thought, so don't be afraid to order blue just because the rest of your interior lights are green. The lights also don't glow quite as bright as stock, which has been mentioned before. I'll have to test more during the daytime and nighttime to determine if they're dim enough to make me replace the bulbs with brighter ones. This link tells about doing this: http://v8sho.com/SHO/WhiteFacesGaugesBulb Replacement.htm

Overall, a sweet-looking mod that leaves you with some gorgeous gauges to stare at!

Hopefully I can have some daytime and nighttime pics up of the gauges pretty soon.

I just put a set in my 92 and I opted for the white faced onces, not the Halo's because the Halo's don't look stock. I just wish I could get just the numbers to light up at night with the white faces instead of the whole thing.

Any pictures of yours installed? I've been thinking about doing this to the 98, but I really don't want to screw with that car since it has such low miles, kinda want to keep it stock, since I already got my modded 92.

Holy cow! Sorry for the late reply, I just noticed that somebody actually replied...

Yeah, I can get some daytime pics today. Everything will be apart, though, since I'm still trying to get my temp. gauge needle aligned right. IMO, they look sweet with the SHO watermark: it doesn't set off the "hey look at me, I swapped my gauges" meter as much as the "hey, that's the way it should have looked from the factory."

I'm still trying to figure out the camera to take a good night time pic, but as soon as I do, it'll be in this thread. I'm planning on swapping out all of the lights back there with some brighter, completely white bulbs so it's easier to see everything and so that the blue numbers will be a little more blue.

Well, I didn't get time to take a pic of the gauges outside in the daytime. I went into the garage (it's now midnight) and tried to create a daytime and nighttime setting for each pic, but they just turned out like junk.

They don't even do these gauges justice. There were shadows going over the numbers and other things wrong, so as soon as I get some decent pics I'll put them up. Until then, here are the crappy ones.

No, the temp. gauge needle is all screwed up. That's why I still have the cover off and everything.

I have a post about it in the "maintenence and troubleshooting" section. It's really starting to tick me off. I haven't been able to get it functioning for weeks. See my other post for details.

Where exactly does it fall when off and where should it run while idleing/driving?

I would expect the water temp to be closer to 200F, in normal use. Oil temp under normal use is about 180F minimum. Trans fluid temp is about 140F in normal use. That is 3 seasons a year. In full summer if the ambient temp is 95F outside, expect all that to be higher. :)
