Ricers and resonators? It's all crap to me.

I'd rather my car be silent that sound like rice...and whoever called that the sound of "performance" IMHO is very mistaken.

When i hear that sound of "import exhaust" (funny, my parents MPV never sounded like that...) it's quickly followed by my voice: "I hope they're joking."

Just my opinion though. Same thing I told my friends about those "Euro" lights he wanted...
I think they look like cheap s***. But if you think they look good, go ahead...it's your car, not mine.

Wow. Single exhaust for performance gain...seems strange me....

NO Y pipe. replace with straight pipe, replace resonator with X pipe, H pipe or straight pipe.
then some nice big mufflers.

2.25 dual would be good. not too big, but can support 300hp.

Oh, yeah, that was another thing I wanted to try. I wanted to make an exhaust that you can't even hear. That or something as low and smooth as possible. But NO RASPINESS!!

Hi Curtis. How's the right coast? And why is there a red Gen II always parked in the same place out in front of VS-38? You didn't leave without it, did you? :( eek!

Quality, single exausts are a common performance modification on seventies and eighties V8 cars. For applications under about 300 horsepower, consensus says that nothing beats a nice, single, 3" system. How this translates to SHOs, I am not sure. Certainly a single exhaust is feasible as a cosmetic change, I have personally seen it done.

Everyone has different opinions on muflers and sound and performance, blablabla..... but if a nice sounding exhaust doesn't sound like performance,(as long as you have it) than how come cars like skylines, corvettes and even vipers have such nice sounding exhausts??

Go listen to a properly tuned sixties mopar hemi. THAT is the sound of performance. It is a matter of large displacement good airflow and a v-8. The biggest fart can in the world will never ever sound like that. Face it folks, our high reving little v-6s are just never gonna sound that good. I haven't heard enough (any actually) aftermarket sho exhausts, but, from what I have heard of tuned v-6s they are not conducive with good sound. It could be worse, it could be a flat four (vw, subaru) the worst sounding engine configuration ever made.

My list of cool sounding engine configurations:

1. v-8 old mopar hemis
2. v-2 (90 degree) ducatti
3. v-2 (45 degree) harley
4. v-4 the sho's little bro, the v-max. I heard one a few years ago which I would have sworn was a v-8 until I saw it. It was awesome
5. I-6 Nothing is as smoov as in inline bimmer.
6. I-4 An inline four on *** sport bike sounds purty nasty at 12 grand.
7. I-1 love a honda thumper dirtbike.
8. v-6* (sho ofcourse)
9. flat 6 pretty cool on a porsche, but still funny sounding.
10. flat four actually sounds kinda cool on a bug w/stinger exhaust, horrible on all subarus.

* the absolute worst sound to ever eminate from an internal combustion engine is an 80's GM 2.8 v-6 found most commonly on camaros from that era. A close second would be my first car, '74 rustang II with the solid lifter v-6. It was painful to listen to.

The people who have been around the SHO world for a long time will remember this(it`s pre-SHOForum).On the old Topica list, somone experimented with a single exhause by just plugging one muffler with a tennis ball. The result was a small bump in power on a dyno. The split into 2 mufflers is completely cosmetic, but the split at the Y is pretty rough, which may cause a bit of turbulance.Hence the SMALL bump in torque with a single. To build a single exhaust for the power increase is a complete waste of money.

yeah, the ferrari v-12 is an awesome sound. I left the v-12 off the list though, since I think I've heard a total of about 2 in my life. I'm guessing it would be a top 5 though.

Subaru? Sounds good to you? Whatever floats yer boat I guess. I suppose a 600 hp subaru ralleye car might sound cool, but, nothing them have on the road does. Although my grandfather had one of those old late seventies 4x4 wagons which the exhaust rotted off of (along with half the car). It did sound kinda mean, for a subaru anyhow.

well heres my thoughts...we all know or should know that we dont LOSE that torque persay but it is moved. we do lose on the low end but it is made up in the top end for HP and turque. and when racing where is our engine operating??? the top end which is where we want our power. sure we all like to have that off the line tourque but all we have to do is catch up and take em down. we know that stock mustang 5.0's we can take most the time in a stock MTX SHO because of our top end power. they will get us off the line but we come back and get em cause of our top end power. so i say we should all have 3 inch exhausts, dual or single. just my thoughts

About the sounds, like i said: It's your car. Whatever you want it to sound like should be what you make it sound like. I still think the best sounding car I've ever ridden in is my Uncle's '69 Mustang Mach 1 w/ the 351 Windsor. thumbs_u That thing sounds great...if you ask me.

Now, i KNOW that there's enough SHO fanatics out there for someone to (by now) have fabricated a true dual exhaust as opposed to the two Y setup. Question is why was it never sold by anybody (to my knowledge) and why don't we see more of it?

Is there some kind of secret breaking point that'll cause a SHO to stop running if we allow exhaust to breathe that easy?

And if there's some sort of a waiting list for true dual exhaust customers, let me hear a sample and I'll probably be signed up! When i get my next paycheck I'll give you the down payment....
