Long story short, some douche hit my driver side mirror in a parking garage and completely shattered the glass. Nothing like walking out late at night after fun with friends and seeing your mirror splattered all over the ground. I don't think they hit it very hard because ONLY the glass is broken. The entire plastic housing and the mount behind it - the motorized dealy that holds the glass - are perfectly intact. Herein lies my questions.
1) What am I best off replacing? The glass is the only part broken, so should I just get another glass piece and find a way to safely secure it on? Or should I get the glass along with the piece that mounts behind it? Or should I just get the entire side view mirror? And where should I get this from?
2) As for the "where" part, are the side view mirrors from a regular Taurus the same as the SHO? I have a 95 with the black, non-body colored side view mirrors. I'm considering getting a replacement from a junk yard, but around here SHO's are rare enough that no junk yards have any. Plenty of SLO's though.
Thanks in advance for the replies. There's nothing more frustrating than working your ass off to make your car look beautiful, then feeling like a ******* when you drive around with a taped up side view mirror. The ol' girl is my DD so I had to tape the glass from a handmirror onto the mount just to be legal to drive. It's really embarrassing.
