Hey everyone, first of all im excited to be part of the forum. Second i own a 2010 sho with 56k on it. I have done some research on a shudder and hesitation that I experience at both highway speeds and also when I hammer the gas at about 40 (sometimes). I heard there is a condensation issue with the intercooler which can cause this. Does any one know of this issue or have had it before ? 2 ford dealers say they found no issues. I did some searching before but couldn't find a good direction to go. Thanks for your help. :thankyou:

The hesitation you feel when nailing it from 40 may just be the delay in the trans down shifting...i hate that but it is what it is. switch over to paddles when you want to drop a gear and disappear!

Thanks but Even with the paddles and in the gear I want its like that.
Let me explain in a little more detail. Let's say I'm in 1st gear at 20. I can build some boost and hammer it and it will try to spin the tires until the rears lock in and its a rocket. Now, same scenario I do it and it will go all the way to 4-4500 rpm before I even begin to feel boost. It literally bogs down. Dangerous at times. And as for the shudder, at 75 mph on the interstate at a slight incline (I mean slight if any) the car feels as if its jolting slightly like a miss or loss of fuel or possibly sucking this so called "moisture" in idk. I've heard it called the dreaded ecoboost shudder.

Welcome to the community, glad to have you and your '10 SHO (need pictorial proof of life) here!

Pulled codes yet? Advance Auto or Autozone should be able to do that for you if you don't have an OBDII reader.

The IC condensation issue is with trucks (F150), not the SHO. There may/may not be a PCV-related condensation issue, but usually not enough to cause the shudder/hesitation.

Have you owned the SHO since new? Maintenance history? If the plugs are OEM, they are badly overdue for a change. There was a problem with the ceramic breaking off in the earlier versions of the plugs. Check the plugs to make sure they don't smell of fuel or oil. Occasionally, there is a leak in the front bank that causes the plug to misfire.

Check all intake/turbo piping to make sure it has not split and is clamped on securely. If you notice a pool of oil in there anywhere, your PCV system may be getting overwhelmed.

Any smoke on startup/acceleration? Checking for possible leaks at the turbo seals, or the oil line leading to the turbo.

PCM calibration up to date? Best way to check is at a dealer.

There is also an "inherent" hesitation issue with shifting suddenly (non-mechanical), and the best way to take care of that is with a tune.

Here is a list of TSBs for the 2010 MY for your reading pleasure:

I don't think the intercooler condensation is an issue for the SHO (or MKS, MKT, or Flex). That was, as far as I know, limited to the F150.

Others on this forum have found the spark plugs to be worn around the 50k mile mark which could explain your shudder and feel of a misfire. You should also check your knock sensor wiring for chafing. Speaking of knock sensors, what grade of fuel are you using? If you're not using 91 octane or higher, you might try a tank of 91+ to see if that improves things. Also, spark plugs are quite easy to change on this engine so it wouldn't hurt to pull a few plugs and see how they look.

Thanks for all the input. I Just put new plugs in about 5,000 miles ago and it didn't fix the problem. I ran octane in if for the first 3000 and then switched to 87 with no difference in driving. I commute a total of 110 miles a day. The reason I bought it is because I have always had grand Cherokees but the 15 mpg killed me. I wanted fun and awd so here I am with a 2010 sho. I also have an 89 mustang gt with a vortec supercharger and a plethora of other goodies. ANYWAY, new plugs didn't solve and it is strange but seems to get better the colder it gets outside.. Maybe its just me getting used to it. But if you can imagine having a cutoff valve from the turbos that is what it seems like is happening ... no boost. I may have to post a video for you guys to hear and see what I'm talking about.

Were the plugs in good condition when you pulled them? What are the new plugs gapped at?

I am guessing you are not the original owner? Is your SHO stock, or tuned? Could be more of an airflow/airflow measurement problem.

2nd owner. The lady i bought it from didnt seem like the tunning type. Stock, I am fairly certain. I would love to throw a tune at it but am scared it might make for a worse situation.

I was having the same issue and talked with some people on the ecoboost form and they told me that there is a problem with over heating of the spark plugs that crack the ceramic top and low and behold when I pulled the last plug there was a crack.

I'm having the same exact problem with my 2013 sho pp with 37,000 miles. Only thing done is a Roush CAI. It's been doing it for about 2 days now and it's driving me crazy. From a dead stop with WOT it's so sluggish like somethings holding it back, then I feel the boost, then it stutters a bit and shifting a little rough.

I'm trying to upload a video I took of my 0-60 but having trouble. Guess it's too long. Lol something is definitely wrong with mine. My 0-60 was 10 to 11 sec in the video. I only run 93 in her and its either she'll or sunoco.

The SHO sounds normal to me, maggs, but in Slo Mo. Weird! Like it wants to run free, but is being held back. Fluid levels/conditions checked, and OK?

If you smell any fuel out the exhaust pipes, it could point to 1 or more leaky injectors. Clogged cats will make a car run poorly, and the most often cited cause is leaky injectors.

When did you put on the CAI? Was the CAI brand new when you bought it?

Maybe bad gas at last fillup?

How often do you go WOT/do you drive the SHO hard? The spark plugs will wear faster, especially in turbo cars. 100K plug change intervals are irrelevant, think more 25-30K. Motorcraft SP534 is a good replacement.

There very well might be oil in the intake/CAC causing issues, so I'd check that, along with any loose clamps. If so, drain the CAC, and switch to a low volatility full synthetic engine oil. Don't want the engine or the turbos ingesting any of that crud. Check the valve covers/plug wells for any signs of leaks.

Check the knock sensor wiring, as it has recently come to light it MIGHT be an issue with 13+ also. Might want to wrap the wiring with loom to restrict as much movement as possible.

Check/clean the MAP sensors while you are at it!

You're 100% spot on, seems like something is holding it back and shifting a little hard. I thought it might be bad fuel bad it last 2 tank fulls from different stations. I bought the CAI new and it's been months.I do drive her hard, especially when then wife's in the car. Lol......the night before this started i did drive it pretty hard, when i smoked a SRT8 Challenger or charger. Was a little hard to see in my rear view mirror. Lol but I'll will say, it's seems to be a ghost problem. I went to work this morning and she drove normal. No signs of slow motion. I know the owner of the dealership personally where I bought it, (used with 12,000 miles.) I'm covered bumper to bumper until 125,000 miles so I'm going to bring it in friday morning. Tonight I'll check some of the things you pointed out. Also, I only run full synthetic. I'll let you know If I find anything tonight. Thanks for the help
