On my way to work this morn. I was drivin' along 65 mph, and the engine just shut off.
And would not start again. It did this one other time, but an hour later when the tow truck came
it started. I have to go out and try to bring it home. (by myself, no one to steer the car while
I pull with the truck, so I am trying to figure out what is wrong with it, while I wait for someone to help?????

sounds like a CPS issue, if I am not mistaken.

Common problem on SHOs with a high milage waterpump. Over time, the water pumps tend to develop leaks. Unfortunately, right below the WP is the crank position sensor. The WP leaks hot coolant onto the CPS, causing it to overheat shutting the car off. After letting things cool down, the car shoudl start.

But this is only one possibility. I am sure the gurus around could help you more than I can.

Cheers

a few years ago my buddy had a similar problem. hsi car died in the highspeed lane on a local highway so he crusied to the breakdown lane where his car would not even turn over. he kept trying. well he trecked 5 miles through the woods, swamp, and along the highway until he found a building wiht a pay phone. he called AAA and when the tow truck came...the car started. he felt like a jack ass. the problem was the alternator and they are tempermental. no warning signs no volt lights, just the car sut off. i hope this helps

It would likely be either the crankshaft position sensor or the fuel pump. If you turn the key on and hear the pump run and the engine still doesn't start - it must be the CPS. If no pump sound, then it would be the pump.

Let's not forget the CCRM also suffers from heat failures, and it contains the power relay for the fuel pump.

It's the relay over the radiator. Have you checked for thrown codes? Could shed some light on where to start looking.

About 50 bucks, yes, yes, kind of.

AZ can get it, somewhere around 50 bucks, maybe less. Do not go in there and replace it only. I had the same problem, a leaky water pump. You don't even know you have a leaky wp until it gets real bad. I replaced the wp, cps, timing belt as recommended for the 60k maintenance. What is the mileage of your sho?

One thing to add to scott's usual good advice. When you turn on the ignition, you will hear the hum. It should go away after a few seconds. Last summer on vacation in the middle of maine, mine started running real bad on my POS slo wagon. I limped into a service station and the mechanic pointed out to me that the pump was coming on, but not turning off, Glogged fuel filter. Since your problem was immediate and not gradual, the filter is probably not the culprit. However, it very well may have caused the problem by making the pump run too hard. He changed out the filter and it improved greatly, however the damage was done to the pump. Later that day I ended up bringing it back to a different garage for a new pump since the old one was not making enough pressure anylonger. I now replace the filters religiously on my vehicles, particularly when on trips to the maine wilderness, a very bad place to have your ride go **** up.

50 bucks. strangely enough, AZ could not get a rebuilt. I got it from big A auto parts.

If you are really hurting for money change the wp first. While you are in there, take a good look at the timing belt. Personally I'd scrape up the 35 bucks for one somewhere, but, since this is not an interference engine and your time is cheap, replacing it is not that important. Also, while you are in there, clean the area around the cps real good w/carb cleaner. It's probably gunked up pretty bad. And be very careful taking off the center timing belt cover. I busted mine in three pieces. Fortunately I was able to patch it back together with a plastic tank repair kit, from ACME. It is basically just a small fiberglass repair kit.
