I don't like hearing how little the SHO's are worth.
A top notch SHO is a beautiful thing, always will be. The excellent styling hides the bizaar front wheel drive set up which I will never sanction as wise, but it is not as though it did not have lots of company in that folly.
The cars are great.... and so far extremely reasonable..... you just cant sell them for top dollar when you are done.
But if they go way up in value, only the super low mileage original models will benefit. And all of us will be paying 3 times more for parts. No thanks, lets leave the pricing alone for now. But lets not complain about it either. If you have a SHO, you have it for yourself...... it is not an investment.
And a turbo SHO.... that one is really for no one other than yourself.

i added up all my expenses over the last few years in getting my car ready for my turbo build. i reached 8k and i dont even have a quaife or forged pistons yet.

when its said and done i would probably have spent 10k on only around 350whp.

This is the reason why i got a set of toolmans pipes. i like to do everything myself. If you want turbo pipes, place an ad in the wtb and someone will get you some of toolmans. if you havent got the first clue about putting a turbo into a sho, then buy the shosource kit. This is simple.

Theres less tech talk in here and more buisness talk. Shosource started with nothing and now they are about to be selling a turbo kit. I think they know how to run a buisness guys.

8 Thousand is a good start.

Last I counted my reciepts, I had $14,000 into my green plus!!!
This is with faded ****** stock paint and ripped up interior.

Could you possibly go with option 1 and tie it in with SHOSource's oil filter relocation/dual filter kit? Essentially use oil that would otherwise be used for the motor, but increase capacity as well as flow rate?

Covered :salute:

Similar to your offer. We plan to offer a base tune program for the TwEECer. It will be on the safe side, and we will leave it to others to tune the last Hp out of the engine.

Who will be creating the 'safe' tune?

I've snapped more axles than both of you combined!
Take your SHO to the strip with slicks and see how long they last.

I cold break them every time I drive, however, I've taylored my driving to prolong the life of my axles past 1,500 miles. :)

IMO, the ONLY thing that will break axles is major shock loading. 10 back to back 1/4 trips at the K-zoo convention had no effect on my axles. Granted, I was on street tires, and I was only running a slow 13.4, but at 117mph. IOW, the car was making some power. With slicks and 4k clutch drops, yeah, I can see an axle lasting 3-4 launches. Jason, you must have had some defective cv's. No way an S/C makes enough power to snap a good axle! :snicker::snicker:

Both were brand new Raxle brand axles.

I agree, it is completely shock load, however, since I'm fighting traction through 3rd (CO), it just has to catch enough to break.

Give me another set and I can break them before getting to work if I want to. Although, I already found a fix to breaking axles and traction and greatly improving times :)

And there's those of us who bought new, or near new SHO's; got mine in 1990with low miles for more than twice what a fully built turbo/SC SHO sells for nowadays. Don't even want to add up the cost of all the upgrades and work done since then and still a bunch of stuff on the wish / to do list.

I may eventually, however, the car doesn't break much when it doesn't get driven:). The first axle was almost shocking (no pun). I was at the top of first gear and it snapped about 1,000 RPM before I was going to shift. I was blowing the doors off my buddy's STi and then had to coast into a parking lot.

There is currently 5,500 miles on the motor since I put it in almost 3 years ago. I just pumped the old oil out that has been in for some time and will put fresh in and prime the motor with the starter.

Is it blue? :laugh_ti:

World Rally Blue to be exact :)

Heh... I bet I have $30k+ into my car with the cost of the vehicle ($8,500). I've gained too much in friendship and knowledge to really care what was spent... and have had a blast (for the most part) the whole time.

I too have quantum Buckazoids invested our supercharged car, and this car brought me a lot of knowledge and friends.

In an attempt to steer the thread back to the original purpose. Based on the input, we are moving forward with the Option 1 lowER cost turbo kit. Because there are people that may be closer to a turbo than others (TwEECer, fuel system, etc), we will try to keep the kit as modular as possible. Even though I say modular, we are still trying to make one standard kit to keep the costs down. As we make progress with the kit and get the price finalized, we will keep everyone updated. For those interested, start saving your nickels. We hope to have a working kit within a few months; it should be sooner rather than later.

Thats good to hear. I hope it works out well for you guys and the SHO communitiy

One unrelated question.

Why turbo?

A vortech V3 (selfcontained unit) would be truly a "bolt-in kit" and easier. With out the oil line/return PITA, it would be a weekend "bolt in 125hp kit". The S/C'er stuff could be done by anyone on a saturday. The rest of the stuff being upgraded is just regular SHO stuff. (FP, FPR, Injectors, ect).

I am all for the turbo though. Will def. be cool to see more boosted SHO's

No belts to mess with.

Something new.

I didn't see if the V5 had no oil lines but we were asking about a no oil line turbo.

Turbos can be had for cheap, new.
