1991 sho:

well, my car has been doing this thing lately where itll drop out cylinders(ignition im assuming) and ill be driving what sounds like a badass chopper for a little ways, and then as fast as the cylinder(s) cut out, they come back on. while the cylinders are out, my tach reads very low, like 3rd gear doing 2grand at 50 mph. i ran the codes, 21 24 and 45(continuous). my exhaust is broken at the back of the y pipe, so somehow all the unburnt gas caught on fire back therr and i had to extinguish it.

a couple months back i did the front 60k and removed the intake. i reinstalled the dis module with what the guy at napa said i needed... dielectric jelly... a month ago i realized this and used some heat sync compound. im thinking maybe its that being fried. maybe the cps, but its new and worked perfect for the first 1500 - 2000 miles. maybe cam sensor?

any help please

..should have let it burn, you life would be simpler....

The intermittent misfire WILL be one of the following:

Coil pack. Connectors and harness between the coil pack and the DIS module. DIS module.

If the connectors are secure, I'd suggest the DIS module as the most likely culprit due to past history.

i dont know if it were clear in the first post, but when it drops the clylinder(s) they dont come back for 2 - 3 mintues

i had the exact same symptoms for months, except the fire. i swapped out the coils, wires, and plugs before finally trying the DIS and once i did that all my problems were answered. also, i'd try to get it fixed asap, because mine started out missing for short periods of time. then by the time i fixed it it would start up like that and last close to an hour or more sometimes.

This is from one of my post tell me if your car is doing the same things (it 's a little more detailed in description)

"Before I list the codes and effects here is a list of the things that I have replaced or cleaned in the past few months.

New spark plugs, spark plug wires, spark plug well gaskets, valve cover gaskets, crankshaft position sensor (CPS), coilpack,
fuel pump, oilfilter, oil change, cleaned TB, cleaned IAC, and air filter.

Sometimes if I drive a short distance get out of the car and get back in 10 min. time frame the car
1)will not start
2) start and backfire and die
3)start fine but later while driving fet a very rough idle or surge if I'm moving normally if I'm moving I can get into the secondaries range and it will smooth out completely and the light CEL will go off or it'll smooth
out just enough to keep the car from surging. In all three situations if I leave the car alone for 15-20min it'll be fine

Codes KOEO
214(M) Error in Cylinder ID circuit or signal- Ignition Systems
524-Problem in low speed fuel pump circuit-Power/Fuel Pump circuits

I reset the codes 3 days ago and the car did it last night on my way home so I opened the hood and pressed down the wires on the coilpack and it smoothed out. The codes above are what I pulled right after the CEL went off last night. This seemed a little strange bc the wires are new and it should be connecting to the coilpack. Is it possible Code 524 is due to a fuel filter? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
THANKS

It's a 92 MTX if it helps"

I changed the camshaft postion censor and now all the problems and codes are gone.

A parts store should be able to check the module for you. Just take it off and take it in. I did that when I replaced my crankshaft position censor

Their test is only useful if it is a HARD fault.

Pretyy useless for intermittent faults.
