I've seen lotsa unfinished dreams regarding SHO motors in a Ranger. From what I've read it seems as though the motor will bolt up to a 3.0 bellhousing/tranny, but not a 2.3 tranny. I have a Bronco II with a 2.9. Anyone know if the 2.9 transmission will bolt up to the SHO motor? Thanks. -Joe

No, it wont. The 2.9 and 3.0 are different patterns. With that said, with money anything can be made to fit. The 2.3 and 2.9 trannys are also built to only handle what those two motors put out; the SHO motor will make short work of them.

Jeff, a SHO buggy guy in Tucson has a friend that put a SHO motor into a Bronco II frame and built a roll cage on top of the frame. It is an automatic and it hauls A$$. He takes it on long desert rides with true buggies and quads, and none of the quad riders want to be ahead of him in the line-up. He puts it in low-range and lets the automatic do its job. I've got pics of it somewhere, I'll try and find them. He did say that an aftermarket tranny cooler is a must.

I have a 4X4 Bronco II with a 5.0 and a T-5 Tranny mated to the original transfer case.

You can mate the SHO engine to a T5 with an adaptor plate. It should not be too difficult to do.

my situation is i have a BII with a stock tranny, stock t-case, old leaky 2.9 motor, and a rusty old SHO with a good motor. if it was easy as putting in a motor and wiring i'd be down, but i already replaced transmission and transfer case.

you should probably sell me that 5.0 bronco II though.

I am using the stock transfer case. It has 230,000 miles.

The T-5 uses an Advance Adapter transfer case adapter. I have a dana 44 twin torsion beam in the front and a 9" Currie rear end. They have been narrowed to fit under the Bronco, but they track 15" wider than the stock running gear.

It also has an Auatofab Fiberclass Kit:

It is a neat little truck, and it is my daily driver. I trade the use with my SHO, when the SHO is down.

It took me 2 years to put it together.
