 Me and my wife were in the 99 coming home from paying our insurance and finishing up some x-mas shopping. We were coming up a road and noticed that there were a few wrecks because the road was very icy.Anyway im driving around 10-15 mph all the way on the right side of the road(four lane)and I see this blue alero FLYING at us from the other side of the road,Im guessing around 50 mph and slides into our lane and BAM head on.The first thing I do is look at my wife and make sure shes okay.Shes balling but okay. The alero slid sideways into us and bounced off another car behind us,his car was bad also.the sho's Both bags deployed, front end is gone, drivers side door is pushed up roof is crinkled, and the engine starts but will not stay running and knocks,Im sure the car is totalled out its a mess and we are VERY lucky my son was not with us and were both okay except for my broken wrist and my wifes hand is broke. My back is killing me now also. The driver is a mexican guy with no licence,he has insurance(card anyway)He gets four tickets and nothing else.I should have kicked his ass because as soon as I get out of the car and see if everyones alright they walk over to our car and start laughing (4 of them).Im like WTF?We have full coverege (thank god)so hopefully everything is covered. What really sucks is that im in college right now (UTI)and have no way to school.that was our only car at the moment. My wife uses her grandamas car to get back and forth to work so thats cool. Its amazing how your life can change in a matter of seconds.I was planning on going home and finish wrapping some presents for our son and going to school tommorow and now this.Sorry for the rant but this sucks,But if I ever had to choose what kind of car to get in a wreck in it would be 3rd gen taurus.Thank god for good safty engineers :hail:

That's ridiculous. I'm amazed at how some people manage to get on the road these days without the realization that "Hey, it's snowing and the roads are icy, maybe, JUST MAYBE...I should slow down a little bit".

That was like, one of the first things I learned in drivers ed. ****, even if you don't go to drivers ed, shouldn't the human brain be intelligent enough to determine these sorts of things.

Maybe it wasn't this guy's fault, maybe some sort of wildlife jumped infront of his car and he had to swerve. It still sounds like plain old negligence on the other drivers part.

Sorry for the rant. I hope there are no lasting injuries, and that this incident doesnt take too much out of your pocket. It was just a car, and thankfully the things you hold dear in your life weren't taken from you.

Now I have to ask, will this fellow driver be laughing his way to a courtroom?

I talked to some people that witnessed the wreck, they said that they were passing people up and just driving like an a$$ right before we got hit,so that really gets me even P.O.

very glad that minor injuries are all that are reported. As stated, it is just a car and those near and dear are okay. Sometimes you just have to wonder about drivers like that.

I have an Uncommon insight into the crash safety of our cars and I feel your Pain. Boom - 2 seconds and Everything is VERY Different - I just Got released from My Wheelchair Yesterday. 5 Star crash rating My A$$ ! - It's More like 6 1/2 Stars.

Glad Everyone is in One Piece. Take Your Insurance Money and Go get Another one, That's what I did. Can't think of another car I'd Rather be Balled Up inside of again!

thanks everyone,I took some pics today of our car and the alero, his whole drivers side is *****.The rear driver tire was ripped off the car and thrown all the way across the road about 300 ft down. The sho is not as bad as I thought though. The whole drivers front is bad,the engine is now knocking and wont stay running,I had to back it off the persons lawn we ended up in for the tow truck but no good,it now just misses real bad. When insurance adjusters assest the damage they look at mechanical issues too right?Im sure they are gonna total it.Its now setting in that the sho is gone which really sucks,we babied that car since we bought it and the car was mint.My wife would get upset at me every time we would go shopping at how I would park out at the end of a parking lot to try to avoid door dings,Well now its got more than a few dings:)Im glad were both okay and most of all our son was not with us at the time(sure he would of been okay though)Thanks again.

Sorry to hear about the misfortune, but as it seems the Gen 3 safety rating is REALLY under rated. The styling might take a little to get used to for some people, but who cares if the car and the occupants will survive accidents like yours and E1's.

If its not too painful to see would you be willing to post the photos that you had taken? Im interested in seeing the damage to both cars

Best wishes for a quick and full recovery!

The Taurus/Sable, in my opinion, is the best, safest car I've ever owened. My wife and her best friend were T-boned by a tractor trailer in a Sable (while heading to my best friend's wedding reception). After a quick trip to the hospital, both were released with minor cuts and scrapes. The car was totaled.

Well, universal casulty insurance flat out SUCKS.After 12 days of trying to get some answers we finally find out that the car is not totalled. The first time we finally got a hold of someone (next day after the wreck),the receptionist at the insurance company was very ignorent and rude.My wife asked for our insurance agent or someone else to talk to because our agent will not return our calls at all after many messeges. The lady told her that she could not talk to anyone else and tosh(wife)asks her if she could tell her whats going on with the car or how long this usally takes. The lady tells her Im just a R-E-C-E-P-T-I-O-N-I-S-T.And yes she said it slow like that like, talikng to my wife like shes reterded,The lady was such a ***th that my wife was crying,I wish they would let ME talk to them at least her.The body shop says its going to take 3,000.00 to fix it,thats just body damage though. The night the wreck happend,I tried to back the car out of the yard we got thrown up into and The car would not move at all it just bucked and knocked, then the car would not even start. The drivers side wheel got hit hard so im guessing some tranny problems.Im so ****** off because this car was MINT and ran perfect. Now the body shops "mechanic" is going to take a look at it.What the **** can I do?Im sure this place has never touched an sho before and the shop seems very shotty,I cant understand what they are saying they cannot speask english well at all. What would cause the knocking?I looked under the hood and it looks like the engine was never touched in the collision but the drivers side got hit hard so who knows? The guy that hit us didnt even report the wreck and cancelled his insurance 2 days after the wreck also.We had to tell his insurance company about the wreck.(our insurance company did not contact them until today.)now his insurance company says that since he never reported it that he is in breech of contract. :madflame:or something. What should We do?Ive never been in a wreck before so this is all new to me.I dont want the car back now because they are never the same after a head on collision.Should we contact an attorny or what?If there is engine/tranny damage (which i would have thought the adjuster would have looked at BEFORE appraising the car,he didnt even try to start it)does there shop have to fix it?I dont understand how someone can hit you head on,admit fault, have no valid drivers licence, never contact his insurance company and report the wreck and just totally blow everything off can get away with all this. The name of the shop is autobody express in addision illinois.Anyone else have insurance nightmares and what could we do?I feel totallty helpless. My wifes hand is broke and she writes with that hand at work so her job is suffering also.Very sorry for the rant but I need some opinions,Thanks again everyone.I would try to post some pics, but I dont know how to.

Go get a lawyer. Does not matter if the guy at fault cancelled his insurance after the accident. If it was in force their insurance company is responsible. If your insurance company won't pay sue em.

I'm not one to throw out the "SUE 'EM" line, but I think you need to follow Bill's advice here.

You need to be prepared to sue both the person who hit you and your insurance company.

Is the roof damaged? Do you have any pictures? It doesn't sound like the car will ever be the same.

And to top it off, if the guy had laughed at me, I'd of asked them how much they'll be laughing when you sue the pants off them. That is...if I had the control not the lay every single one of them out...

Glad to hear you two are okay. Accidents can be a real pain (in more ways than one). My cousin recently started to go through a lawsuit after an accident. The insurance company settled out of court. It's not a fun process, but if your company won't help you out then litigation might be the best option.

It sounds like you really need someone on your side besides all of us here at this forum.
Get an attorney because someone needs to make this right for you and your family. Even if it takes a while to sort it all out, I stress that the insurance companies and the guy that hit you need to take responsibilty for this and put things right again. Have your wife check into FMLA to see if she can get some time off work until her injuries heal. She should still receive pay for this also.
