I had an incident with a jack a$$ yesterday (the guy refused to just leave me a lone for something that he did wrong) and I notice that everytime I stepped on the gas hard, I could see smoke through the guys headlights. I got this car from my cousin and he said that it has always used oil so I should keep my eye on it (I would have anyway). It seems that it needs a quart every 1000 miles or so. Do you know the most common thing that causes this is? Does this car have a PCV Valve? I was thinking valve seals or rings or something. I'm hoping that this doesn't get to be too bad before spring.

This may be a totally seperate issue but...
Sometimes its hard to start. Usually its when the engine is warm but it has happened when the engine is cold. I replaced the TPS and made sure my MAF sensor is clean. It seems to start easier if I give it full throttle. I tried to just give it a little throttle to see if that would make it start easier but it didn't seem to help. Crank and cam position sensors were replaced when I did the upper and lower 60K's last spring.

By the way. My cousing ran mobile 1 synthetic the whole time he had the car. I've heard stories about using synthetics in a tappet valve system. What happens is, the synthetics tend to leak through the valve sleeves when the engine is warm then it smokes out of the exhaust. A friend of mine experienced this in his honda 750. He changed oil to the (then new) mobile 1. It began to smoke to the point that he thought something was MAJORLY wrong. He switched back to conventional and the smoking totally went a way.
Right now I'm running Castrol Syntec 5W30. I did try conventional when I first got the car because thats what I had in the garage. I think I'm going to try conventional next time around and see what happens.

Stuck oil control rings due to carbon built up in the ring grooves. Usually not due to wear. The cure is the same. A ring job. The ring grooves cannot be decarboned with crankcase additives. 1000mi to a quart is'nt too bad yet. Blow-by will also pool in the intake plenums causing excessive burning when the secondaries open. A oil catch tank may help. I know some are using them out there. Pop off the crossover and take a peak in the front plenum, You'll see.
