I wasn't sure where to find the proper section to post dyno goodies, so I thought I'd put it here!
A couple weeks ago I had an opportunity to get Ginger on a Mustang dyno at the local college. I was even able to drive her myself! This was a very cool experience and I surprised everyone there(especially the guy with the Caliber SRT-4 that was running his mouth)! I'm going to try my best to get the video posted, if I can't figure it out, any help would be appreciated!

Pretty good numbers. What all has been done to it? Is the 220 number corrected for crank hp, or was that at the wheels? What gear did you do the pull in? When did you start sampling? Where is the torque reading?

Oh, and where in Indiana are you? There are a number of us in the Ft Wayne area.

It's Boat's old 94, 3.2, 3.0 heads, 5 speed, full exhaust, cold air intake, and underdrive crank pulley are the main mods. It's a Mustang Dyno which simulates wind and road resistance, typically 35-40% lower number than a standard "free roller" dyno. I pulled to 118 in 4th and the 220.7 was to the wheels. No tq numbers available since she's OBD1. I live right by Glenbrook mall. I acually just picked up a blue 93/auto, doing a minor restore, then I'll pass her along.
The guy you hear yell "WHAT!??!!" was the owner of the Caliber SRT-4, he wouldn't run after I put down numbers! Funny

Thanks LJ for making it easier to view.

Ahhh, okay. I know Boat dyno'd it one time when I took mine to CJ Racing Engines here in Auburn. It made pretty good power on the DynoJet....I think it was something like 210/200 whp/tq. Can't remember what mods he had at the time, but I know he added some more afterwards.

If its reading the power at the wheels I'm not sure I really understand the absence of the torque number. You have to have a torque reading to get HP. HP is just a number that is mathematically derived using torque and rpm.

Not to ruin your day, or rain on your parade...but those numbers off. Also, Mustang dyno's only typically read 12-14% lower then your average Dyno Jet. If that car was very healthy I could see it pulling MAYBE 190-195 or so on a Mustang Dyno (Maybe 210-215 on a Dyno-Jet).

The numbers that it made on that Mustang Dyno (which are also very finicky and need to calibrated quite often to stay accurate) are what a full bolt on (Cams, EH / BBB Intake, Y-Pipe, UDP..etc) car would make. Also, mustang Dyno's are capable of getting TQ numbers whether they are OBD1, OBDII , carbed...etc. There was a lot of operator error going on there.

I didn't really understand either. Yeh, I was going off of what I was told about the Mustang dynos, but with a little research, I think it's only like 10-20% lower number. Still much more realistic. I just really liked that I was able to drive it, I HATE other people driving my cars! I wanted a base number for Ginger, future mods are just doing some intake work, then probably a small shot of nos, just for fun.

You are better off taking it to a Dyno Jet for base numbers. It makes it MUCH easier to compare it to other SHO's (Where 99% of the cars have had their dyno runs on a Dynojet). It's also worth mentioning that the way you ran your car on the Dyno did you know good either. You will never see a Dyno operator ringing out third before they start the run/graph in 4th gear.

Regardless, looks like you are having fun.

Well Spazz, My parade is a little moist, kidding..with my research this afternoon, I can agree with about everything you stated, but whatever, maybe next time they can error me up like 250+ haha! I'm just happy to have a big fat car that is comfy and gets compliments usually about once a week! Boat did me right on a sweet Dad-mobile and I smile every time we hit the road. One thing I love about the SHO community is it tends to be full of down-to-earth people with good knowledge and not a bunch ****** who think they have the best machine on the streets!
