The Host Hotel for the convention will be the Renaissance Charlotte Suites Hotels located at 2800 Coliseum Centre Drive in Charlotte, phone: 704-357-1414 or 1-800-266-9432 or via the website: https://resweb.passkey.com/go/SHOClub. We were able to negotiate a group rate of $100 per night. RESERVE YOUR ROOM(s) NOW because the hotel was not willing to lock in a large block of rooms without the SHO Club (& Mallinsons), putting ourselves financially on the line for any cancellations that did not meet their required minimum. What they are willing to do is make sure that any reservations can be cancelled for no charge up to 6:00PM on the day of arrival. The hotel will not make any charges to credit cards until we check-in, or after 6:00pm day of arrival with a guaranteed reservation. Those using debit cards need to note that a $50.00/day incidental authorization will be made to the debit card, which will be placed back on the card if the room does not incur any incidentals during the stay; typically taking most banks 3-5 business days to do so. If you have any questions on the hotels debit/credit card policy, PLEASE ask when you call to reserve your room!
The 2011 SHO Convention will include sites and locations that any auto lover would completely enjoy! At the end of last years convention, we had mentioned that we hoped the convention would be in Durham-Raleigh area, but after looking at all of the sites and activities, and consulting with some of our long time members for their input, we will be much better off locating the group in CHARLOTTE, NC!
Reception: Rousch-Fenway MotorSports $20 / adult
Welcome to NASCAR country, and it is in that spirit that we have been able to arrange our main welcome reception to be held at the professional garage of Rousch-Fenway Racing! What else would go with this than a good old fashioned BBQ cookout? Along with this will be a tour of the Fabrication building where the cars are finalized before heading out. Tickets will also be sold to allow five lucky people to enjoy a FULL VIP tour of all of the buildings during Tuesday when all the buildings are in full production mode! Tickets will be sold for a $1 each and will benefit one of our annual charities.
Car SHOw: The host hotel this year has a nice open parking lot next door that is perfect for the car show and we have received approval to use it! $10 / car for pre-registrations, $15 day of.
NASCAR Hall of Fame: What other site could be more automotive appropriate than the one museum in Charlotte dedicated to the racing legends of NASCAR? We have arranged for discounted group rates: $16.95 adult group rate, $15.95 senior rate, $10.95 child (5 - 12) and free for 4 & under. All you will have to do is display your SHOw Club ID badge at the entrance anytime during that week and you will be allowed in! Plan on parking downtown costing about $10 for the afternoon / evening. We will also draw car #'s during the Tuesday car show to provide FOUR SHO's owners (1 of each generation) the chance to park and display their SHO directly in front of the Hall of Fame for the afternoon (until the museum closes at 6pm). Great photo opportunity!!
Track day: VIR (Virginia International Raceway)
Every year we include a track day at a nearby track and this year we REALLY worked hard to include Virginia International Raceway! While it IS a 3 hour drive from the Charlotte hotel, this is a Grade A facility and track that will have you enjoying every moment of it! Price is $280 per car, with a discount for additional family members (spouse, sibling, child) driving the same car. We HOPE to be able to provide lunch as well, but we have to make sure the track rental costs are covered first! Otherwise there will be a concession stand at the track that will be open.
This event is also open to our friends at AutoInterests, Taurus Car Club and any SVT/Cobra/Shelby member! If you are not a member of one of those groups, please contact me directly at 309-349-2800!
To borrow the SVT's terminology: Convertibles without roll bars will not be permitted to run except during the parade laps at lunch. A light bar is not considered a roll bar. Bolt-in roll bars are permitted (factory installed functional rollover protection will also be permitted).
Drags: The ROCK is a wonderful 1/4 mile track about 2 hours from Charlotte and will be on Thursday! $45 / driver / car.
Thursday Banquet: After this past years (2010) convention... you can bet Ford will be around at our traditional reception in 2011, and maybe even bring a special guest speaker with them! Anyone who has been to the last two conventions knows that Ford has been very kind in treating us to something special, and they are planning to continue that in Charlotte! The hotel has been able to help us keep our costs very close to the same as we have had in the past. Adults are $36 and $14 for children ages 3 to 12.
