I am looking to ship a motor to me in Texas, from Ohio, looking for a good shipping co, and a pretty good estimate at her weight.

No intake, flywheel, brackets, or accessories, just the long block, dry, on a skid(pallet).
Anyone have any experience in this part, and remember what it weighed? thanx

I don't know an exact weight for a long block, but I can tell you that even just a shortblock is better than 200lbs. Truck freight is probably going to be the most economical way. You might try calling Al Fitz or SHO Shop and asking them the weight and for shipping recommendations since they've shipped them.

Thanx, I know Al is out today, and did not think of asking Tom or Tim. I plan on a truck freight co being cheapest, but I really want it here safely. Thanx again

Reviving thread...anyone know the undressed shortblock weight?

I have to build a sled so that I can slide it down the basement stairs. That will be the easy part. I gave up the hoist, so I will need manpower to position it on the sled.

I figure on getting it up and down the stairs with a come-along or winch. The stairs is a straight shot to the outside, so even a truck winch is a possibility.

This way I can store and work on the engine over the winter at room temp. Very desireable.

I've picked up a short block and lifted from the gound to the tail gate of a pickup truck. But it sure is easier with 2 people. 2 strong people can carry a short block around a garage without too much "grunting".

the bare block without bearing caps is only 110 lbs.
Yea, every other day or so I do 5-6 sets of curls with a couple of bare blocks I have lying around. So you should be fine. :laugh_ti:

I squeeze one in each hand several times a day just to keep my grip strong.
