I'm going to be home from college on Friday for a week and was thinking about knocking out the Upper 60K. I was wondering if somebody on here has a shim rental kit, or knows where I can get one. Also how much it will cost and what all comes with it?

And could somebody explain in detail anything that can be confusing when doing the Upper 60K? The thing that scares me the most is the valve adjustment. I've read throught the writeup on SHOPhoenix and I'm still a little hazy there. I just don't want to run into any problems or screw anything up. But I definitely want to do it myself. If anybody wants to give me any advice before I dig in I'd appreciate it :thumb:

Bill has that kit , he can probably drop you a line on the HOW-TO , it's pretty simple.

I'm assuming there is, but is there a way around using the kit? I'm sure the kit makes life a lot easier but I would think you would be able to work with other tools, the only think you would need would be the actual shims if neccessary right? And I was doing some searching and read somewhere they are the same as what are used in Yamaha 4-wheelers. Correct me if I'm wrong. I'm sure people go this route and if so could you chime in. I really don't have an extra $200-250 that I can part with for a week or two. I'm really trying to save some money, and if I can use tools I have and only buy the shims I need and save money by not renting the kit then I'm all for it. Please excuse any ignorance, I'm still relatively new to the GenII.

Well unless you remove the cams , there is no way to remove the shims , so in that case you need the rotunda tools T89P 6000A (there is 2 hooks in that kit that you need.)

If you dont have any shims in hand , you can always swap them all to have a better valve clearance overall(SP?) .

Shims are usually from 2 to 7$ each depending on the rareness of the size you need.

Motocycle shims , I've heard it many times , never seen anyone posted pics about them.

I hope this answers your questions.

I keep seeing the Rotunda kits on ebay for the 3.0 T98P 6000A. I may just go that route being that it is cheaper. But then again it would be nice to have the shims on hand in the kit if I needed them. I really wish some people lived closer to me who could go through this with me and help me out since it will be my first 60K. But I guess you have to learn somehow...

Are the tappet compressor and holder SHO specific or can I find them somewhere else. That seems to be the only thing I don't have...

We do rent the shim kit: SHOBros

We also sell the tools as well: SHOBros

The tools are SHO specific but I have seen tools that looks similiar but never been able to verify.

The kit is good to have for the various shim sizes as you never know what you need.

I there a waiting list for the kit. I don't live where the car is located, and I'd need to have it on a date I knew I would be able to work on the car?
