Having some troubles with shifting on my ATX. When shifting into reverse sometimes it doesn't engage and I have to move it into park and back down into reverse for it to shift into gear properly. I changed the entire shifter from another ATX car and it seems a lot better than the one that was on previously. Also, when the car is in Reverse sometimes the backup lights will not turn on. Sometimes the car won't start in Park as well so I have to start it in Neutral...so I know I need a new Neutral Safety Switch. Will this fix my shifting troubles and also my backup lights from not turning on? If anyone has experienced these problems before and can help me out with advice and any adjustments I can do I would appreciate it.

on top of the trans (where the shift cable attaches) is a switch know as the MLPS. that needs to be aligned with the shifter lever so that the neutral switches are engaged at the proper orientation of the lever. the cable is adjustable there, so that you can adjust it such that the orientation of the trans shift lever matches with the location of the shifter handle in the console, so that everything matches up and works like it should.

its possible that the mlps could be bad, but much more likely it is just mis-adjusted from your description.

Thanks ruby. I will play around with the adjustment. If that doesn't work out, I'll just order a new switch and see what happens.
