I own a 95 MTX and after taking it to a mechanic, he thought that in neutral the shifter should center itself between 3rd and 4th gear. Mine stays there you put it, either between 1st and 2nd, 3rd and 4th or over by fifth. It's done this since I bought it about 1 and 1/2 years ago. Is this true for a SHO mtx? The mechanic seemed to think some of things centering srpings were weak or broken. It shifts fine and I never have trouble finding gears inthe pattern. Is this something to worry about.

My 94 is the same way. Hope that helps with your question. I don't worry about it.

All of my MTX's (7 of them) have always centered between 3 - 4

They are call bias springs, they help locate the shifter in the 3-4 gate location. They seem to be either broken or missing in most '94-95 MTX's that I have either seen, driving or asked the owner about. They are located inside the transmission itself, near the rod linkage input shaft. If they aren't there (for whatever reason) in your MTX, the only problem will be the occasional missed 2nd to 3rd gear change during a fast shift.
