FYI folks, I just installed a B&M Hammer shifter head on the 95 MTX. The thread is apparently an M12 x 1.75, and the B&M p/n is 80742 (83-96 Camaro/Firebird & 83-96 Mustang). Summit sells it for about $32.

It fits really well, is comfortable (though cold now...), and looks VERY nice, I think.

Hey Fred,

How is the shifting? Is it any better than the stock shift ****? The only other SHO I have seen a shifter like that is on Mark N's car. Let me know because mine is pretty well worn out.

Coming from my old Monte Carlo with a 4-speed B&M ratchet on the 200-4R, I was comfortable with the "T" concept. Otherwise, it might take some getting used to.

Although its not doing anything to the actual shifting mechanism, shifting feels really crisp - like I'm more in control. It's an illusion, I'm sure, but one I'm willing to pay for!

Ooooh, momo raptor...

I had a Hurst T-handle on my shifter a while ago, but I took it off in favor of the stock **** (courtesy of olympic). I don't know why; I kind of liked it. Well, one day I went to look for it to put it back on, and found that my dad had put it in his work truck! Oh well. Maybe I'll add that to my list of excuses to spend $70 on a Raptor shift ****

I have a classic alum Hurst "T". It was on red91sho's 427 chebby truck when he was in college (way back in the day). I think the **** is older than I am!

I don't remember what the stock thread was, but I drilled it out and tap'd it to M12x1.75 and ran it on the old SR71 last year. Now it serves duty on the new one. You can bang a mean 1-2 at the strip with it.

Only problem is when it's been sitting all night @ 20 degrees, it's like grabbing an ice cube in the morning.

I have been using a black Hurst "classic" shift **** in the larger
2-1/4" diameter size, with an engraved inlaid 5-speed shift pattern for a couple
years now, p/n 1630114. It was also designed for Mustang applications
with the 12mm x 1.75 thread. Works great on top of my custom built, one
off true short throw shifter. They also offer it in white, p/n 1630014

I gotta be honest with you guys - I really don't like the Raptor. Great for show cars, but for street driving? I'm not convinced. A shifter with a great big hole in the middle. Hmmmm.
