A little background: About a month ago I noticed that the shifts became weird. I took it to the dealer, did a trans flush, calibration update and trans values erase. Since then I drove another 1k miles and it's been getting better overall.
But a few days ago I had a rental Jeep and I realized that I could not even notice the shifts in that thing, unlike my own car.
So it made me think, I can't remember how this car shifted when I bought it. Please tell me if what I describe is normal or I do need to have it looked at?
During minimal throttle and very low speeds, like stop and go traffic it shifts through first 3 or 4 gears at very low rpm and every shift is felt. Shifts are not hard but you can feel like a slight pulling forward for a moment during the shift.
During normal or hard acceleration the shift points are at higher rpm range and shifts are very nice and smooth even though you can still feel them.
Occasionally when slowing down to a crawl somewhere under 10 mph, and then accelerating it engages a little harder than normal. I think it only happens at very specific speed. A little slower or faster and it will be nice and soft. I think it always did this and my previous Ford had the same behavior.
Sometimes when going downhill with very gentle throttle I get a hard upshift around 40 mph.
Does all this sound about right?
