WOuld getting a shift kit put in improve my quarter times any? Also, is the durability greater when the tranny has a shift kit?

Theoritically yes on both accounts. But a chip would do the same. The AX4N is contolled by the PCM mostly.

Diablo, Super CHip you can but I go the chip route first to see if you like it. Diablo (you program) seems to work better (here say thou) with our cars then Super Chips.

I'd steer clear of the chip route. Seriously, I don't think there's anyone out there with a Gen 3 who is running a chip that hasn't either really messed things up or hasn't done a thing.
A shift kit would be the way to go. More expensive, yes, but definitely would give you the results you're looking for. Firmer, quicker shifts, increased durability.

Actually I know of one or two people are working on a Diablo sport chip and having good results. This maybe my next purchase this chip you can program yourself. Diablo seems to be better than Super Chip, I will be looking into it soon

I not saying not to go the tran kit route, but very respectible tranny builder told me programing will yeild better results....

There hasn't been a chip invented that has been able to show positive gains for the Gen 3 SHO. Chip experts have tried to dissect the computer programming in the V8's computer...but there are waaay to many layers.

Are there chips advertised? Absolutely...but as Mark said...noone has shown positive gains...and most have had moderate to severe problems.

Just my experience and knowledge. Find a chip that works..and shows positive gains without damaging an already testy engine (IE:cams, etc) and you'll have a aftermarket ready.

You want a faster car? Go with something different...and remember that these engines aren't being made anymore. Sooo...if something goes really haywire..you'll be getting another type of vehicle.

I'll be happy just driving my SHO with an aftermarket exhaust and a few minor underhood mods such as the UDP and SHOShop Intake.

As far as shift kits go....Doug Lewis in Atlanta (or thereabouts) makes one. I don't have it installed..but if my tranny's ever rebuilt..ones going in. I've heard nothing but good things about his shift kit.

I suspect Mark has the heart of it here. The secret to a long life for these cars is keeping the mods in reason and not thrashing the thing every time you depress the throttle. I like to get at least 10 years out of a good car. 20 out of a really good one. And this is a really good one.

i am familiar with the chips that u all have been talking about and from what i have read the vast majority have had little or no gains and more headaches than not....my question is who makes shift kits for our SHO's?????????if anyone and when it is installed would that be a good time to beef up the tranny?????????

Dear SHODOWN.

That sounds like a very underpowered SHO. Most get into at least 3 digits for both readings. Perhaps you should have someone else test it for you.
