shift cable repair?

the socket that slips onto the ball on the transmission end of my cable shifter is shattered, any known fixes for this?

The socket ends on my shifter cables wouldn't stay on I used some 14ga. wire and a couple zip ties to hold it back on. Almost 4 years later and I only periodically check and retension. If the whole ends gone I think its toast. I have an extra pair of good cables, I've never got around to putting in.
