pic* how am i gonna open my trunk now???

Im going to shave my trunk.
The small holes from the 'ford' and 'taurus' emblems i will just weld shut, but i also wanna shave the lock.
My question is...what should i do with the lock, can i just take it off, leave it out and still have the trunk latch inside the car and the keypad be able to open the trunk?
i know SHO2NV and a few others here have their locks shaved so i know its been done to our cars.
thanks.

I think using a Yamaha badge the one that replaces the blue oval, would also look cool, that would flip as to expose the key hole when needed.

I think it would be much easier than moving the mechanism and would also be different.

IF you take the lock out, the mechanism from the electronic release will still work.. Take a look inside the trunk, the lock just turns to unlock it, doesnt really have much relevance otherwise... I say go for it. :thumb:
Although, tonys idea of a flipping blue oval wouldnt be too bad either....

Kinda like the mid 80s Caddy long bodys right? Where the emblem just pivots and reveals the lock behind it?
I was thinking that too, cuz i noticed prophet had mentioned it in another post, but im not too sure how to go about doing that.
Hopefully ill have time to do it this week, if i do, ill post pics of before and after.

you can get a pivoting ford oval off a late 80s vic... then replace the ford with a yamaha..

but I'd just shave the whole thing.

i agree with above, if you want to shave the lock for a smooth clean look, throw the lock away. the keypad and manual trunk release will still work flawless. heck, the only key i ever use in my car is to start it. i always use the keypad for the doors and trunk or the manual trunk release.

So how does on go about shaving the lock cylinder? My '97 trunk lock has never worked anyway with the key.

I took the trunk off to make it easier.

I took off the lock open mechanism, leaving only the lock cylinder in place. There is a rivet that holds a small metal place in place, that rivet will need to be drilled out. The metal plate i mentioned can then be pryed out which will allow the lock to be pulled out.

Using a grinder, i stripped that area down to the metal. Using a hammer and dolley, i tried to bring out the 'indent' where the lock was out a bit more to the surface.
Then i traced the size of the hole onto a piece of paper, which then transfered on to a piece of metal. I cut out that metal piece and using a mig welder i tack welded it over the hole. I then spot welded all around the metal piece, being very careful to not get it too hot as it will warp the metal around.
Grind off the welds so its smooth.
There should now only be a small indent left, i went over it with "all metal" bodyfiller and using a longboard sanded with 80grit paper. Followed with one more coat of regular body filler, and one of glazing puddy.
Then you have step sand, featheredge, etch primer, fill primer, block.. etc

Thats quick description of how i did it. I did it on a gen1 so the lock mechanism might be different, but other than that, the procedure works for all locks/holes.

Just realized my panel around the trunk lock is removable and plastic on the Gen 3.
