I've just recently finished swapping subframe and all from one running SHO into an SHO that had a cam failed motor. So far it runs fine, however the SES light came on and I've used 3 different scanners and none of them are able to link to the vehicle. is this an indicator of a bad PCM?

No, it's an indicator that you probably didn't re-use the original engine harness. My guess is that you put a '96 drivetrain into a '97 or vice-versa. Harnesses are different for every year.

i kept the respected wiring harness with each motor. as in i never separated the wiring harness from the motor. I also kept the orginal PCM with each motor, Should I have done something differently?

All the engines are the same 1996-99 but like Mr. A said the wiring harness should have stayed with the car along with the PMC. I changed my 97 harness with a 98 there are several differences. Lots of work finding them, still not sure if I have them all.

Yes, you should have swapped the harnesses around to keep the one that came with the car.

Presuming we're talking about 96/97's here, the PCM's are 100% interchangeable so that's not the issue.

The issue is the C-130 connector (the big one above the tranny side pan), which is what connects the engine harness to the chassis harness, is wired differently for each year.

If you just want to read codes, a "dumb" code reader like an Actron should still work, but a real scan tool won't be able to communicate. You also won't be able to get the A/C compressor clutch to engage.

You can re-wire the C-130 connector but you'll need both schematics to figure out which pins need to be swapped around.

I'll just have to look and make a diagram comparing the C-130 connector from both harnesses. now does the differences between the two harnesses comprise of critical functions or are they just for things like gauges, idiot lights, things of that nature? thanks for the help guys I really appreciate it!
